The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported 20 calls from June 11th to June 14th. Deputies responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle, gas drive off, child custody issue, theft involving a delivery of groceries, trespassing issue at Robertson Park, and a Juvenile issue. Deputies took a report of a Mortgage related scam, conducted a welfare check and Dispatch received an odd call from a party claiming to be under FBI protection, is a billionaire, and has a covert camera and microphone implanted in their forehead. The call was transferred to Nobles County after learning it was a Worthington related issue. The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners cleared the way for schematic designs on the N71 Building and handled a busy slate of local zoning and administrative matters during its regular meeting on Tuesday. Among the primary actions taken, the Board greenlit two separate proposals aimed at advancing the Schematic Design Phase Services for the county’s N71 Building. Commissioners approved a $7,000 proposal from Contegrity Group alongside a $17,000 proposal from Widseth to move the facility’s planning forward. Local zoning requests also received attention, with the Board granting two notable 60-day extensions. The first gives developer Kyle Ludewig additional time regarding an Interim Use Permit to re-open a gravel pit located in Section 16 of Amo Township. The second grants a 60-day extension on a Conditional Use Permit for Darren Haugen, who is seeking to erect a telecommunications tower in Section 4 of Delton Township. The Board approved a formal agreement between Cottonwood County and the Cottonwood County DAC (Developmental Achievement Center), authorizing the Board Chair to sign the contract. Before adjourning the board approved June Warrants totaling $137,747.36 for county expenditures.

Several items were presented by City Administrator Michael Mueller and approved by the Mountain Lake City Council during its meeting Monday night. The council first approved the sale and land split of a .319-acre parcel near Midway Road. The parcel will be sold to Ricky Oeltjenbruns for approximately $1,875, based on the same per-square-foot value used in a larger land transaction involving a 7.54-acre parcel. Oeltjenbruns will be responsible for surveying, staking and other customary buyer expenses associated with the purchase. Council members also approved Resolution No. 11-26, authorizing a land exchange between the City of Mountain Lake and Shannon Haberman. Under the agreement, the city will acquire a 0.34-acre parcel adjacent to Lakeview Estates, while transferring a city-owned parcel of approximately 29.96 acres to Haberman. City officials stated the exchange serves the best interests of the city and will allow both parties to better align property boundaries and future land use plans. Another action item approved by the council was Ordinance No. 6-26, establishing new requirements for public events where alcohol is sold or served. The ordinance requires event organizers to reimburse the city for police coverage costs associated with those events. Reimbursable expenses may include officer wages, overtime, traffic control, administrative costs and equipment use. The city may also require organizers to provide a deposit before an event takes place. Unpaid balances must be settled within 60 days, and failure to pay could affect future permit approvals. The council also adopted a new Electronic Time Recording Policy for city employees. The policy authorizes the use of an electronic timekeeping system in place of manual time records, in accordance with Minnesota law and guidance from the Minnesota Office of the State Auditor. Employees will be required to record their hours electronically, with supervisors reviewing and certifying records before payroll processing. The policy includes safeguards for accuracy, record retention and protection against unauthorized changes to payroll information.

Time is ticking as today happens to be National Watch Day. Now you could take that two ways but the correct way is TIME, not literally watching someone… I honestly don’t know how people function without a watch. It is a necessity of my daily function… I have clocks everywhere too BUT my watch is an extension of my being. Being on time or late… Today is National Flip Flop Day and Find a Leak Day. I love my flip flops they just bring Summer to life and make the whole vibe of life spunky and cool. I hope no one has a leak they have to find, seems that would be a very frustrating task. Oh look at the time.. It is time to sign off!
