Windom Police Department reported 111 calls in the week of June 7th to June 13th. Officers had 11 Directed Patrols, 1 Concern for Welfare, 2 Civil Disputes, and 4 Parking Violations. Windom Police Officers investigated 2 Suspicious Activities, 1 Suspicious Person, 1 Suspicious Vehicle, 1 Fraud, and 1 Noise Complaint. Officers responded to 1 Suicide Threat, 1 Terroristic Threat and 2 Verbal Domestic calls. Officers conducted 1 Predatory Offender Check and 48 Traffic Stops. The Red Rock Central Board of Education will be meeting Today at 5pm in the Red Rock Central School District Media Center. There will be a designated 30-minute public comment period at the beginning of the meeting, the board will allow each speaker up to 3 minutes after stating name, address, and topic. Please note, Board members and Administration will not respond during public comment, although topics may be considered for future agendas. Board members are expected to vote on a new teacher negotiated agreement, alongside a new superintendent contract. In new business, the board will review and vote on the preliminary Fiscal Year 2027 budget, and consider two separate grant donations. The L-B-T Area Community Foundation Board has put forward three-thousand dollars for a Digital Skills and I-T Career Pathway, while L-and-S Construction is offering two-thousand dollars toward a new videoboard. The session is also scheduled to include a closed session to discuss ongoing labor negotiations.

The Jeffers City Council met in regular session on Wednesday, June 10th, at Jeffers City Hall. Council members approved plans for a street dance anniversary celebration scheduled for August 15th. Bruce and Sherry Sevick presented their plans to the council and received approval after Cottonwood County authorized the barricading of County Highway 32, also known as Whited Street, between Courthouse Avenue and Deaver Avenue in Jeffers for the event. The council also discussed several community maintenance issues. A complaint involving a dog on private property was reviewed, but officials said the animal responsible has not yet been properly identified. Residents can expect letters regarding lawn mowing and animal control concerns as the city works to address seasonal property issues. Lance Holmen reported mosquito spraying will take place ahead of Outlaw Days and again later this summer. The city also plans to order additional picnic tables to replace damaged ones. City Clerk Sharen Goeman updated the council on a new payment system that would allow residents to pay water and sewer bills using debit or credit cards. The council agreed to move forward with exploring the option. In other business, the council unanimously approved naming the Jeffers Senior Center as a backup election polling location.

The Economic Development Authority of Windom will soon welcome a new Executive Director after the Windom City Council approved the hiring of James Hanson as the new EDA Director at last night’s meeting. During the EDA’s June 8th meeting, City Administrator Steve Nasby reported that four candidates were interviewed on June 1st by the Personnel Committee and EDA President Stacie Sanow. Following reference checks and a background check completed by the Windom Police Department, Hanson accepted the proposed terms for the position. At the meeting when presenting himself to the council, Hanson answered Councilwoman Jenny Quade’s question on the topic of starting date that there may be a chance of starting at the end of June but definitely by July 6th pending expectations of exit dates with his current position in Staples MN. The council welcomed Hanson and it appears the Personnel Committee selected a very personable and fitting candidate for the position.
