The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported 24 calls from June 1st to June 4th. Deputies Assisted two times the Alpha First Responders and 4 times Jackson Ambulance, and Lakefield Ambulance. Deputies responded to a Domestic Disturbance, and a disturbance at Burger King in Jackson. Deputies gave a presentation to students at the Middle School in Lakefield, conducted a welfare check that ended in an arrest, aided a driver that ran out of gas, took a report of an assault in Jackson, a harassment on social media, a scam in which the victim did give personal information, a theft report in Heron Lake and conducted several traffic stops. The Windom Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the hotdoggiest night of summer 2026. Hot Dog Night & Crazy Days, set for Thursday, July 16th. Hog Dog Night will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Courthouse Square in downtown Windom. This year’s festivities will coincide with the Kastle Kingdom Auction, creating an especially busy and exciting night on the square. Businesses are encouraged to reserve booth space and participate in the popular Hot Dog Contest, where attendees will vote online for their favorite hot dog creation using a QR code. The winning business will take home the traveling trophy and earn year-long bragging rights. The annual Hot Dog Night brings together local businesses, organizations, and residents for an evening of food, entertainment, and community connection. Booth registration is $125 for Chamber members and $150 for non-members. Registration includes booth space, food, and entry into the Hot Dog Contest. The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the next event in its 2026 Lunch & Learn Series, featuring Scott Marquardt, CEcD, of the Southwest Initiative Foundation. The program will take place at noon on Thursday June 11th at the LaCanne Family of Life Celebration, located at 1000 Prospect Lane in Jackson. Marquardt will discuss economic development resources available to communities and businesses, as well as initiatives through the Southwest Initiative Foundation and the Jackson Community Foundation. The event is open to area business leaders and community members interested in learning more about regional economic development opportunities. Today’s Meetings include:
- The Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services Board is scheduled to meet Tuesday, June 9, at 9 a.m. in the large conference room at the Jackson County Government Building in Jackson. Board members are expected to approve routine business through the consent agenda, including minutes from the May 14 meeting, May auditor warrants, surplus disposal of retired technology items, and the closure of DVHHS offices from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, for an employee engagement event. One major action item includes consideration of revisions to multiple personnel policies covering topics such as harassment, employee attire, social media use, telecommuting, employee conduct, work schedules, evaluations, and vacation leave benefits. The board will also hear fiscal, human services, public health, and administrative reports before addressing any additional business and committee updates.
