The Jeffers City Council approved the city’s 2025 audit and addressed several community matters during its meeting on Monday night. Council members approved the audit despite the absence of representatives from CarlsonSV, who were unable to attend because of a scheduling conflict. Audit handouts were provided to council members for review prior to approval. The council also approved a building permit request submitted by Lee Hanish. Members voted to support a request from Bruce Sevcik, submitted through the Cottonwood County Engineer’s Office, to barricade County State Aid Highway 32, also known as Whited Street, between Courthouse Avenue and Deaver Avenue. The council discussed hiring a road crew for city street work and agreed to set pay at $25 per hour. Council members also reviewed the recent Board of Review meeting held April 29. Only two council members attended, and neither had the required training certification. As a result, the County Assessor conducted an open book meeting instead. The council voted to continue allowing the County Assessor to oversee property tax matters in the future. In other business, the city will send a warning letter to a resident regarding a dog running off leash and another letter concerning tire storage on private property. The council also voted to cancel its May 25th meeting because of the Memorial Day holiday.
