An upcoming ATV safety training opportunity is being offered for area youth and riders looking to meet Minnesota requirements. The ATV and off-highway motorcycle rider safety course will cover a wide range of topics, including basic operation, safety practices, trail riding, state laws, and protecting the environment. In Minnesota, riders ages 10 through 15 are required to complete an online safety course before attending a hands-on training session. Those born after July first of 1987 must also complete certification before operating an ATV on public lands or trails. The hands-on ATV safety class is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th at 1:00 p.m. at the Cottonwood County Law Enforcement Center and Island Park. The course is open to anyone age 10 and older. Students ages 10 to 15 must complete the online course in advance, while older participants may complete the online-only option. Cost is 34.95 for the online course, and $10 paid online to the DNR to obtain certificate upon completion. Instructor Jayd Soderholm with the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office will lead the training. Participants are welcome to bring their own ATV for the class, although it is not required. Please bring safety equipment, especially helmets, if you have access to them. If you have questions or would like to register, email jayd.soderholm@co.cottonwood.mn.us

A unique cultural storytelling event is coming to Lakefield, inviting the community to connect through personal history and shared experiences. “What Is Your Family’s Immigration Story?” will take place Wednesday, May 6th from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lakefield Multi-Purpose Center. The event will feature powerful, real-life immigration journeys shared by guest speakers, along with cultural music, refreshments, and a hands-on art project hosted by the Jackson Center for the Arts. The event is free, but registration is required and space is limited to just 20 participants. To reserve your spot, call 507-662-5353 or email pdchief@lakefieldmn.com.
