The Windom Police Department reported 77 calls in the week of February 15th to February 21st. Officers had 17 Directed Patrols, 2 Animal Calls, 3 Civil Disputes, and 1 Noise Complaint. Officers responded 1 Domestic Assault, 1 Verbal only Dispute, Investigated 3 Suspicious Activities, 1 Suspicious Person, 2 Suspicious Vehicles, 1 Burglary and conducted 23 Traffic Stops. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 31 calls from February 16th to February 22nd. A deputies conducted several concerns for welfare checks, assisted MN State Patrol with a pursuit on I-90, responded to a Domestic Disturbance in Jackson, another Disturbance in Jackson and a report of on-line harassment. The Lakefield Fire Dept, Lakefield Ambulance, and deputies were paged to a hog barn fire southeast of Lakefield. Crews were on scene for about 1 hour. The Des Moines River Sportsman Ducks Unlimited are bringing a high-stakes BINGO fundraiser to Phat Pheasant in Windom on Friday, February 27th. Organizers promise this is “not your grandma’s bingo”. Participants will have a chance to win shotguns, rifles, handguns, cash prizes, and more during 10 action-packed games throughout the evening. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the first game starting at 6:30 p.m. Game packs are $60 and include all 10 games. Organizers say the event is designed to be fast-paced, fun, and full of big-win opportunities, all while supporting local conservation efforts through Ducks Unlimited. The Windom City Council took action on two agreements at its February 17 meeting. Council members approved a $45,400 engineering services agreement with Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH) for the 2026 apron reconstruction project at the Windom Municipal Airport. The project will reconstruct nearly 90,000 square feet of general aviation apron pavement, which was last replaced in 2005 and is now rated in “Very Poor” condition. Design work will include FAA coordination, an engineer’s design report, final plans and specifications, and bidding assistance. Construction is anticipated in 2026, pending grant approvals. The Council also approved an indemnification and insurance agreement with the Cottonwood County Agricultural Society for a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association event during the 2026 Cottonwood County Fair. The agreement requires the Ag Society to defend and hold the City harmless from claims related to the event at the Windom Arena.

Farm 40 Free is officially underway for 2026 and KDOM is gearing up for another big year. The 37th Annual Farm 40 Free Giveaway will culminate with a live drawing on March 25th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Windom Community Center in Windom. Last year’s event was a huge success, and organizers are expecting another strong turnout this year! Farmers who operate at least 75 acres are eligible to register for a chance to win more than $10,000 in prizes. Everything you need to farm 40 acres.
