A 28-year-old Jackson man is awaiting extradition after being arrested on felony criminal sexual conduct charges. Elijah Camarillo was arrested February 14th in Beloit, Wisconsin. According to court records, a warrant for Camarillo’s arrest was obtained February 13th. He has been charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count alleging force and one count alleging the victim was physically helpless. Both charges are felonies punishable by up to 15 years in prison, a 30-thousand-dollar fine, or both. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report February 4th alleging sexual harassment by Camarillo. Sheriff Shawn Haken said because the sheriff’s office works closely with the Jackson Ambulance Service on a daily basis, it is standard practice in situations like this to transfer the investigation to another agency. The case was turned over to the Worthington Police Department, and the investigation remains ongoing. At the time of the complaint, Camarillo was serving as a supervisor with the Jackson Ambulance Service and as assistant ambulance director. In a February 17th press release from the City of Jackson, officials stated that over the past two weeks, two ambulance service employees were placed on administrative leave amid ongoing employee investigations, and one of those employees has since resigned. The Jackson City Council later approved Camarillo’s resignation as assistant ambulance director. The city also stated it retained an independent, neutral investigator in November of 2025 to review Jackson Ambulance Service operations, and that investigation will include the most recent employee complaints. In the press release, the city said Minnesota data privacy laws prohibit the release of additional information at this time and emphasized that the Jackson Ambulance Service will continue to provide emergency medical services without disruption. The matter remains under investigation.
