The Windom Area School Board is moving forward with a plan to ask district voters to approve funding for major school facility improvements. At Monday night’s meeting, the board approved a resolution calling for a special election on February 10th, 2026. Voters will see two questions on the ballot. The first question would fund a fine arts center, a multipurpose athletic field, and renovations to the track, wrestling room, gymnastics facilities, and school locker rooms. The second question focuses on outdoor practice space, asking voters to fund construction of youth baseball and softball fields, along with improvements to soccer and football practice fields. Superintendent Jamie Frank noted that the district continues to grow. Enrollment has increased by seven students since October 1st, bringing the K–12 total to 1,136 students. The board also approved adding an additional junior high wrestling coach for this season. Participation has surged, with 53 wrestlers in grades 7–12, including 34 from Windom, 14 from Mt. Lake Area, and 5 from Butterfield-Odin. Frank said this is the strongest participation the program has seen “in a very long time.” In other business, the board approved several personnel changes, accepted donations, received administrative reports, and approved both the administrators’ and teachers’ seniority lists for the 2025–26 school year. The meeting was held at the Windom City Council Chambers and streamed live on YouTube.

Another week down and I have to say how much I appreciate the grace lent to me in the past month for not only a croaky voice but being in a frustrating state of mind. I finally did it, broke down and made the call and admitted defeat to this crude that has overtaken me for the past month. Pneumonia… It is crazy to think any of this could be avoided. I mean I go to bed early and rise at a respectable hour of the morning. I don’t go outside with wet hair and I don’t wear shorts and flip flops when the temperature is below 80 degrees… This wasn’t always true but since getting old I follow ALL the rules my mom beat into my head… I really want to thank Dr Lori for the kindness and not shaking her head or lecturing me but for giving me some pretty good meds to try to knock this stuff out. Let the record show I am NOT contagious just a menace to myself and Steve. Yesterday was National Dream Destination Day… Too late for that so I am looking forward to opening the packages that were just delivered that have my annual Matching PJ’s in them. It’s National Family PJ Day! Every year, all my kiddos and Steve humor me and change into the matching jammies for the “Family Photo”. Thanksgiving can’t get here soon enough. And today is national pickle day. Love every type of pickle there is, but sweet jerkings are my ultimate fav! Between the Northern Lights and getting a little relief finally from my marathon illness, TODAY IS A GOOD DAY! I am just so grateful for the sun rising and setting in the same direction every day!
