Cottonwood County residents will have the chance to safely dispose of unwanted household materials this weekend. The Cottonwood County Landfill is hosting its Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday, October 18th from 8 a.m. to Noon. The event will be held at the landfill, located at 43979 County Road 22 in Windom. This is a one-day only event with special pricing on many items. Tire disposal will be 15 cents per pound, and some exclusions may apply. For more information, residents can call 507-831-3781.

Bingo is back at the BARC next week! A fundraiser for the Business, Arts & Recreation Center will be held on Tuesday, October 21st in the West Gym at 1012 5th Avenue in Windom. First call will be at 6:30. Bingo cards are just $1 per game, A dinner with sloppy joes and chips will be served for $5, starting at 5:30 p.m. The event will be hosted by Jean Fast of EXIT Realty- Great Plains. Concessions will also be available, including popcorn, cookies, and beverages for $1, and bars for $2. Players must be 18 or older to participate.

The League of Minnesota Cities is once again asking young Minnesotans to imagine life as the mayor. Students in grades four through six are invited to submit a short essay answering the question, “What would you do if you were mayor for a day?” Three winners will receive $100 and have their essays published in Minnesota Cities magazine. There is no cost to enter, and submissions must be original and between 125 and 300 words. Essays are due by December 12th and can be sent in online, by email, or through the mail.
