The Minnesota Department of Transportation is returning several small road segments back to the City of Windom. As part of a right-of-way review, MnDOT identified areas that were originally part of the city street system but had temporarily been included in the state’s highway system. The affected areas include:
- A 700-foot segment of 1st Avenue North south of 16th Street,
- Portions of 10th Street on both sides of Highway 60, and
- A narrow strip along 6th Avenue North south of Highway 62.
City Administrator Steve Nasby said the city has already been maintaining these sections, and the turnback will simply formalize that local control. MnDOT does not plan to provide funding for maintenance, since these areas were previously under local jurisdiction. The council approved the resolution at the City Council meeting on the 7th.
