We a great time last night at Hot Dog Night. Our new concoction of the Hot Doggy Nachos went over pretty well… Some of you peeps out there that withstood the Extra Hot Sauce I still am in awe! Thanks to the other businesses in town that came out and made the night enjoyable and fun. It is always a pleasure to get the chance to see our listeners and show off our staff and skills of plopping the dogs in the trays! We had a blast giving away over $200 in the LA MOTOR SPORTS Big 5K Giveaway too… Remember to watch for KDOM out in your towns and everywhere around so that you can be a winner!

The Windom Fire Department is getting a major boost thanks to a donation from Federated Rural Electric. The Jackson-based cooperative presented $7,500 to Windom firefighters to help cover the cost of new turnout gear. Fire Chief Ben Derickson says the funding comes at a perfect time. “We had five new firefighters join the department. This donation will cover gear for two of them. Each set of turnout gear which includes the coat and pants, costs about $3,500 and is critical for protecting our firefighters from heat and smoke.” The donation was part of a larger $7,500 gift made to each of three departments—Windom, Fairmont, and Truman—through a program led by Federated and boosted by matching funds from CoBank and Basin Electric Cooperative. Federated’s General Manager Scott Reimer says this is the fourth year of the initiative, designed to rotate support across the fire departments in its service area. Fairmont will use its donation to replace two aging mobile radios, while Truman plans to upgrade expired turnout gear. Federated Rural Electric serves more than 5,000 members in Jackson and Martin Counties.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on the 15th, covering a wide range of county business, including staffing changes, vehicle purchases, and legal matters. Commissioners began by approving the agenda and minutes from the July 1st meeting and then entered a closed session to discuss ongoing litigation regarding the proposed expansion project in Delton Township. The discussion focused on how their decision on a stay request could impact the case. Once the meeting was back in open session the commissioners approved staffing movements, hiring and accepted resignation of Deputy Assessor Sarah Lanier, effective August 13th, and voted to advertise for an Appraiser position. The board denied a request to stay the county’s decision on the environmental review for the Delton project, directing staff to draft findings and a resolution supporting the denial. The commissioners then approved Two new pickups for Public Works and Solid Waste. Both are 2026 Chevrolet Silverados—each priced at $55,453, with older vehicles set to be sold. Commissioners also approved placing all proceeds from public works parcel sales into the General Administration fund. In other business lease and agreements with several county and regional agencies, as well as adoption of Resolution 25-07-15 were approved.

Oh how I wish today was tomorrow because tomorrow is National Daiquari Day. I REALLY could use a cold one… Have you ever had one of those days that no matter what you do or what you say it is all taken out of context and thrown at your feet as if the world is ending? I had a great conversation in a parking lot, because that is where most productive conversations happen! Anyways, my friend said, I was chatting with a gal the other day that said she was just grumpy and couldn’t shake the feeling. My friend said, she felt the same way. I in turn said it is an epidemic… And then we both said, what the heck is going on? It came to me out of the blue… Too many people are grumpy due to circumstances beyond their comprehension or from the stress of trying to do it all. Misinterpretations turn into bigger fishes to fry and we all know fish stinks after a couple days. Today is World Listening Day… MAYBE if we all just stopped and listened and really tried to HEAR what was being said, we would hear the compliments and cheers instead of the negative bits taken out of context. It is Perfect Family Day today too. Is there really such a thing? Isn’t it all the little idosyncrosis that make families unique and awesome but not so perfect? I don’t know I am still just trying to get by and rise in the morning with a positive outlook and see the potential of everything and everyone in front of me. As my friend and I were wrapping up our resolution to World Peace… I told her… I KNOW why everyone is so grumpy… It is the air quality. I mean, the air is not good because of Canada’s fires and so we are breathing in the clean fresh air so our brains aren’t functioning and we are all just in a fog…YEP that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!!! Breathe deep and exhale the goodness to spread around…
