The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting Monday afternoon and voted 3-2 to approve an Interim Use Permit for Minnesota Paving and Materials to expand its quarry operations in Delton Township.
The permit allows for a 10-acre expansion of mining, extraction, or excavation of sand, gravel, rock, or other materials in Section 8 of Delton Township. Commissioners Larry Anderson and Wayne Maras voted against the permit, while Chairman Kevin Stevens cast the tie-breaking vote in favor. The decision went against the recommendation of the county planning commission, which found two major criteria unmet and advised denial. In addition to approving the permit, the board also approved seven specific conditions tied to the expansion. These conditions are aimed at regulating and monitoring the mining activities to minimize impact on nearby landowners, protect the environment, and ensure compliance with county standards. While the permit has been granted, quarry expansion won’t begin right away. A 30-day appeal period is now in effect, and any excavation work would be put on hold until a ruling from the Minnesota Court of Appeals if an appeal is filed.

Ahhh Friday! We made it! AND the sun is coming out just in time for National Sunglasses Day! Whoot Whoot Bring on the sun… I’m tired of the rain… I demand my summer before Winter comes! MN weather is just icky!!!! At Least in NE and SD you get all four seasons in one day.. MN it is Cold, Wet or Mosiquitoy… I see it is also National Onion Day. Onions make me think of the movie Holes. If you have never seen it, I highly recommend it. My son had me read it back in the year 2001 or 2002 and then the movie was made and I was a believer. It was done sooo well! Loved it… I’m puzzled that today is also Ice Cream Cake Day. I mean July is National Ice Cream Month… But I guess there is no reason NOT to start celebrating early!
