The Mountain Lake Christian School’s Fund-Raising Auction is TONIGHT! There is 250 baskets and live auction items plus a variety of gift cards that will be available to place your bet on. The Live and Silent Auction start at 630pm. Doors open at 5pm. This Annual Auction is a fun community event that benefits the school for scholarships, curriculum, extra circular activities and more.  Come for dinner the gang will be serving up pulled pork sandwiches, hotdogs, egg rolls and wontons along with dessert bars and a drink. Tonight, the fun is at Mountain Lake Christian School located at 710 11th Street N in Mountain Lake. Come browse, come bid, but most importantly come to gather in Christ’s Name at this fun event.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday. Chairman Stevens appointed Commissioner Appel to the Drug Court Steering Committee. The Commissioners recognized and declared the week of April 13th-19th as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. The board also approved the Home Initiative- New Construction Application.  The Commissioners then approved the design proposal by Stonebrooke Engineering for Bridge 5990 replacement structure in an amount not to exceed $71,340. The County Engineers report and load reduction postings for road and bridge in county were approved. The reimbursement Agreement for Preliminary Engineering Services between Union Pacific Railroad Company and Cottonwood County was also approved by the commissioners.  All seasonal hires and other transfer of positions were approved pending successful completion of all hiring requirements. The Commissioners approved the Legal Services Agreement between Cottonwood County and Smith & Johnson Law Firm retro to January 1, 2025.

The Cottonwood County Ditch Authority met on the 1st. There was a motion to approve the submission of the FY26 Water Quality and Storage Program Grant request to the Board of Soil and Water Resources for Cottonwood-Brown JD#24 totaling approximately $677,784 and allow the Ditch Inspector electronic signing authority on behalf of Cottonwood County.

The Windom Public Library in partnership with the Cottonwood County Historical Society will be presenting a discussion with Patty Wetterling and Joy Baker. On Wednesday April 23rd at 1pm at the Historical Society located at 812 4th Ave in Windom. Patty and Joy will be discussing their book, “Dear Jacob”. This program is made possible through a grant from Prairielands Library Exchange.

Researching Friday April 4th and I see that it is Vitamin C Day and International Carrot Day and yeah it is National Picky Eaters Day and okay National Walk to Work Day… All of these are okay celebrations BUT then I came across what is most important for the day… Believe it or not, BUT oh my goodness this is GOLDEN!!! It is no lie (even though today is actually tell a lie today day) It is National Hug a Newsperson Day!!!! YES!!!! How awesome is that?!!! Hugs make the world go round and round!!! AND today is specifically slated to hug a newsperson!!! This is the day it says we are supposed to give huge shout outs to everyone who helps us stay updated— Survey’s have been done and the top four most influential news anchors of all time in order are still Walter Cronkite, Edward Murrow, David Brinkley and Peter Jennings. Also to be added to the celebration is RADIO News Reporters (even if they are just headline and self-opinionated reporting), Weathermen, Newspaper and even lets throw in the self-proclaimed social media news reporters oh and I will never not give a special shout out to all our KIDCASTERS on KDOM they are so incredibly awesome!!! Give them ALL a hug today!!!
