Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported 45 calls for March 17th to March 23rd. A deputy responded to 2- domestic disturbances in Jackson, 1- domestic disturbance in Okabena and 2-other disturbances in Jackson. Deputies handled a report of a bed mattress that was dumped at the Timber Lake boat access, and Assisted 13 Jackson Ambulance and 1 Lakefield Ambulance with medical. The Worthington ISD 518 Board of Education met last week on the 18th. According to a report the Board after a lengthy discussion voted to approve cuts for the 2025-26 school year that amount to just over $1.5 million in budget reductions which totals 2% of the district’s overall budget. Cuts in special education services offered by the Southwest West Central Cooperative along with not filling open or soon to be open positions, including paraprofessionals and interventionists when current employees retire or resign at the end of the 24-25 school year were amongst some of the cuts.

Farmfest Woman Farmer of the Year nominations are now being accepted. This award was created to honor hard-working female farmers across Minnesota who selflessly give their time to growing crops and raising livestock on the farm. Any Female that meets the following criteria can qualify for the Farmfest Woman Farmer of the Year:
- Must farm or ranch as a sole proprietor or one part of a couple, family or partnership.
- Farm must be located entirely within the state of Minnesota.
- May work outside the home or farm but must contribute to the farming/ranching operation in addition to the duties outside the farm.
- Has a high level of commitment to the farm/ranch in terms of hours dedicated to her work.
- Has a positive impact on the farm in terms of income, yield, diversification, and/or overcoming challenges.
- Nominee demonstrates not only impact on the farm but also positive impact on her community.
- Is highly encouraged to be available to attend a recognition ceremony on August 7, 2025.
- Must agree to be featured in Farmfest advertising, news stories and social media.
- Must provide at least 1 photo with their application.
- Must be a legal resident of the United States, and eighteen years of age or older.
Five nominees will be chosen and honored, on stage, at the Aug. 7 ceremony where one will be awarded the 2025 Farmfest Woman Farmer of the Year and receive a cash prize.
