The Windom Park and Recreation Commission met on Wednesday with the oath of office being added for all commission members that were present to be sworn into the Commission. Recreation Director Tim Hogan reported on the status of the pool. Hogan stated that they have still not received the inspection report at the time of the meeting but are hoping to get it soon. Once the report is received, they will send it to FEMA and have a better understanding of what the future looks like for the pool. Unfortunately, Hogan went onto say that due to the damage to the pool and mechanical components the pool will not be open in 2025. Hogan stated they are exploring options for swimming lessons in nearby cities and will share findings when they are confirmed. Hogan did report the Ice Season is wrapping up at the arena with a great year behind them. At this time, Hogan stated they are working on grants and funds for a new sound system. Horse Shows are being booked at this time and weekends are filling fast so Hogan foresees it to be a busy summer for horse shows. Street and Parks Superintendent Jon Ketzenberg was present and gave an update from the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting concerning the permanent berm that they are seeking a conditional use permit to start the process to build. An extensive discussion was held on the dog park and options for when the berm is built. Ketzenberg explained based on the mapping from the engineer there were a couple of options to consider. Options of moving the dog park to other locations were discussed but it was noted that it is very important the dog park remain in Island Park. Action was taken by the Parks Commission to agree to a conditional use permit to construct the berm in Island Park with the condition that the dog park be put back in a location within Island Park. Ketzenberg also informed the commission that the new shelter for Island Park is ready to go as soon as the berm is completed. Discussion was held on the little cabin in Island Park, it was recommended and approved that since there is no historical connection with the cabin, and due to safety concerns that the cabin be removed. Grants have been applied for and Ketzenberg said they are still waiting to see if they will be awarded funding for the replacement of Kastle Kingdom.

So the most obvious thing today is that it is 3-14 yeah you know… Pi Day… Pi is a constant value used in math that represents the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter which is 3.14… 15….9265359…and it goes on and etc etc etc… For me the constant is actual pie! Anything that allows us to celebrate the day with pie is important to me! YES, there is a ratio involved in my world, how many slices do I dare eat… 3.14 might just give me a belly ache but I’m willing to give it a shot for science oh wait I mean math!!! It’s also Albert Einstein’s Birthday today! BRILLANT! While I am celebrating EATING the PIE, my Sweet Henry is in a competition to see who can name the most numbers in Pi… Sometimes I wonder if I am ever going to swing him to the not so genius side of thinking!! Whether you are a counting Numbers Pi Guy or a counting how many slices of Coconut Cream or Apple Pie Celebrator, enjoy the day and count on…
