Cottonwood County Emergency Management Update:
The Blizzard Warning has been extended to 6pm tonight.
The wind continues to he strong but will weaken as the afternoon goes on. Overnight the wind will be light.
State roads in Cottonwood County remain closed.

The National Weather Service offices in Sioux Falls and Chanhassen have issued a blizzard warning for the greater parts of Southern Minnesota and Northwest Iowa which includes Cottonwood, Jackson, Watonwan and Murray counties. It remains in effect until Noon today. Reports indicate there could be 1-3 inches of snow, and wind gusts up to 60 miles an hour. Travel warnings for blizzard like conditions with icy roads, blowing snow that could create whiteouts. Many schools and businesses have closed so check where you are going before you leave.

The Windom Police Department submitted their February 2025 Monthly Crime Report. They had 13 Adult Arrests, 2 Juvenile Arrest and served 4 Warrants with a total of 393 Calls of Service for the month. There were 5 Accidents with 1 injury and 6 DUI’s. Windom Police Officers issued a total of 90 Traffic Violations and Warnings for the month. The Windom Chamber of Commerce is waving Old Glory and spiffing up the City to reflect that small town feel with big aspirations. This years Riverfest Theme is American Flag Days and Windom Chamber wants to extend the thrill of Riverfest and up the ante to making Windom the Town of 10,000 Flags! The community is invited to make this dream a reality. Flags of all types and sizes are on sale now at the Chamber Office! You can get big flags, little flags, and even flags in-between, Buntings, window stickers, and even ornaments to paint the town RED WHITE AND BLUE! Help raise money and the flags in Windom for Riverfest by stopping down to the Windom Chamber Office located on the square at 303 9th Street. Everything Red White and Blue is now available at the Chamber office, all proceeds from purchases go directly to Riverfest. The Windom Chamber is hoping to have the patriotic colors flying high from Memorial Day Weekend to August. According to Executive Director Darci Jones, the intention is for this to be the start of many years of being known as Windom, the City of 10,000 Flags, and hopefully it will get bigger as the years progress. Jones went onto say that there will be BEST DECORATED Contests in three categories. Businesses, Homes, and Floats for the Riverfest Parade. The contest for Businesses and Homes will begin Memorial Day Weekend and go through Sunday June 15th with a winner announced for both on Monday June 16th. The Riverfest Parade Floats will be voted on prior to the Parade and the winner announced during the parade. If you haven’t stopped by the Chamber Office yet, you should. There are so many flags and items available for purchase from now till Riverfest. Mimi and Papa’s have donated some amazing décor items for fundraising purposes. Butterflies, Frogs, a Gnome, and a really cool Military Memorial, just to name a few. All you have to do to learn about all that is available and prices is stop down to the Chamber Office or give them a call. Lets Paint the Town Red, White and Blue this coming summer.
