Jeffers City Council met on the 10th. The council heard from Travis Anderson, on his request to build an impound lot on the LA Motorsports property on the corner of Best Avenue and Peavey Street.  Anderson stated that he would be working with Windom River Towing. He would be installing an 8 ft chain link fence with mesh on the west and north side of the building. He went onto say rock would cover all grass within the fenced area. Anderson stated, there are regulations that need to be followed in order to get a permit from the state and he had been turned down by the cities of Windom and Bingham Lake. The Council asked for Windom River Towing to be contacted and asked to attend the next council meeting for further discussion. The Council then approved the Jeffers Fire Department request to raise the fee for fire protection for townships to $300/section from previous $225/section. Discussion was held on Dog issues. The clerk will send a letter to a resident regarding the city dog ordinance.

Windom Area Health is the hub of construction and building towards a new tomorrow. After having the opportunity to tour the newest addition I thought it would be fun to take you all on a tour through what I saw. There is a great Fact Site available for anyone that would like to access at www.windomareahealth.org/new-medical-building-faq/ Funding is always a concern but according to the site under the funding section “There will be no taxpayer dollars involved in with this project. While Windom Area Health is owned by the City of Windom, they have always operated as a financially independent entity and will be financing this project on their own. Windom Area Health has its own Governing Board who is responsible for ensuring financial stability and strength of the hospital, and thoroughly evaluating all capital projects.” According to Chief Human Relations Officer, Emily Masters, the current project budget has remained on target at $30 million. The hospital put in $10 million from cash reserves and borrowed $20 million from United Prairie Bank. Filling the space as I explained last week will not be an issue as Windom Area Health has expanded their services and staff since the last major addition. Masters stated, Windom Area Health has been extremely successful in the past 2 years in recruiting and onboarding our own providers, to be able to expand our community services, and bring in new services. In addition to the new providers/services going to the 2nd floor of the new building, we have also been successful in hiring providers for our Hospitalist program and Emergency Department. We continue to hear needs in our community and will continue to evaluate and respond to those needs to build on our regional healthcare offerings.” On the second floor of the new addition, there will be approximately 10 different permanent providers/services that will be offered that we will further discuss tomorrow as we talk about the floors of the building and how they will be used.
