Windom Area Health is the hub of construction and building towards a new tomorrow. After having the opportunity to tour the newest addition I thought it would be fun to take you all on a tour through what I saw. To get to where we are now, I think it is important to highlight the whys and how’s it took to get to this point. The last addition to the hospital was the surgery and outreach clinic along with the new lobby. Since that time Windom Area Health has expanded their services and seen an increase in volume and have hired their own providers. According to Chief Human Relations Officer, Emily Masters, as Windom Area Health looked to the future and what it was going to take to provide the community the healthcare services needed, it was apparent they had outgrown their space, especially in the clinic/exam room environment. Masters went onto say they explored continuing to have room for Sanford Clinic and other providers on campus and also relocating the Wellness Center and expanding their offerings there as well. Long story Shorten- the addition was initiated by Windom Area Health’s internal leadership team, then presented to the Governing Board for approval and then presented to the Windom City Council for approval. From groundbreaking in October 2023, Masters stated they were planning for 18-24 months for completion. When it’s meant to be it is meant to be, and the mild winters for the past couple years, it looks like completion will be early-2025. Masters added, with large projects like this, the completion date is always a little bit of a moving target but we are happy with a current target of May 2025, if all else goes smoothly. Next week we are going to talk budgeting, recruitment and what exactly is going to fill each floor of the new addition!

Love is in the air… Literally!!! The Department of Natural Resources EagleCam has captured a pair of Eagles bringing grasses to a second-alternate nest which means they are preparing for their nesting and egg-laying season. The camera is directed at their new nest to follow the pair’s activities but unfortunately it is too late in the breeding season to relocate the cameras for a better view. In Minnesota, the bald eagle’s breeding season begins around December. Over the coming weeks, you will likely see more courtship displays between the pair and increasing activity at the nest. When the female is sitting in the bowl of the nest and not leaving, that is a sign that she has laid an egg. Female bald eagles typically lay one to three eggs over the course of several days, and both parents share incubation duties. Let the excitement unfold and capture you. Happy Valentines Day! It has been fun this week with our Valentines Day giveaway and hearing all the positive and meaningful messages everyone posted and sent. I grew up being my Dad’s Valentine. Every year he would write a poem just for me. He continued this well into my marriage and honestly until the year of 2003 when he passed away. Not going to lie 2004 was a tough year. BUT from this life-long commitment I learned that it doesn’t cost anything to make someone know you love them and that you care wholeheartedly. The beauty of poetry from your heart whether it rhymes, flows or is choppy at best is the ultimate gift. I am blessed to have my Ultimate Valentine, Steve my Favorite Valentines Drew and Nate and my Funny Valentines Henry, James, Darcy and Theo. How blessed can one person be? My hope is that all our listeners understand we adore each of you! I also love February 14th because it is National Library Lovers Day. A library is such an exciting and wonderful place to be. Surrounded by books full of Adventure and Love and more knowledge than you can ever imagine! Libraries are the spark of ones imagination and a library card is the passport to never having to be alone or bored. I know I know I should have been a librarian. To me THAT would be the ultimate occupation. Surrounded by books all day long and helping people that share that love of words! No matter what your occupation, no matter what your age, you should absolutely check out your local library and immerse yourself in whatever adventure, mystery, love story or hard fact reality you desire!!!
