Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 29 calls in the week of January 5th to January 11th.   Deputies conducted 7 Civil Processes, handled 2 Driving Complaints, had 1 Animal Complaint and 1 Dog At Large, conducted 1 Predatory Offender Check and made 5 Traffic Stops. The Windom Ambulance submitted their 2024 call/run reports. It was reported that there was a total of 1,132 run logs filled out for 2024 and they logged a total of 97,042 miles. It’s time for the Prudence Lodge #97, Anual Ice Fishing Contest on Sunday, February 2nd, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cottonwood Lake, located at Tegels Park in Windom. The entry fee is just $10 per contestant, with all proceeds going to the Sharing Center in Windom. The event raised an impressive $6,900 for the cause in 2023. Participants can compete in various categories, including Walleye, Northern, Panfish, Bass, and Non-Game Fish. There are cash prizes for the top finishers: $100 for First Place and $20 for Second Place in each category. Unclaimed paybacks will be drawn for at the end of the event. The contest is organized by the Masonic Lodge in Windom/Prudence Lodge #97. For more information, contact Mitch at 507-822-1784. Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event, so bring the whole family out for a day of fishing, fun, and community support!

Red Rock Central High School and Windom Area Schools are showcasing their students through nominating two of their students for a couple of prestigious awards. Austin Imker of Red Rock Central High School and Brita Tjentland and Jackson Joyce from Windom have been nominated for the ExCel Award which stands for Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership this award is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, leaders in their schools, and who demonstrate a strong commitment to community service. This award is sponsored by the League’s corporate partner TruStone Financial Credit Union. Aryanna Weber of Red Rock Central has been nominated for the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award, commonly known as the Triple ‘A’ Award. This award honors high school seniors throughout the state who have a 3.0 or higher-grade point average and who participate in League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.   KDOM wishes all nominees good luck in qualifying for the awards.

Kiwanis is sponsoring Open Gym on Sundays from 1pm-3pm in Windom School’s Blue Gym, also known as The Nest. Open Gym is a great way to get the kids out of the house and burn some of that pent up energy from the cold winter days. Every Sunday in January and February!
