The Windom City Council met on the 19th and the meeting was packed full of topics that we have been talking about for the past week. There is a lot going on at this time. Discussion was held on the Re-Striping of the Highway out by Kwik Trip, Possible Roundabouts as a solution, Stop lights by HyVee, Flood levies and they also talked about the Windom Pool and where we stood on this issue. Councilwoman Jenny Quade had this to say about the situation with the pool and why action has not been taken as of yet.
Councilwoman Jenny Quade talks about Windom Pool:
” One other thing we talked about was the pool. We got an update that FEMA to know if the pool was affected by the flood and to get FEMA money, we needed an inspection of the pool. The people that we talked with, the proposal for the inspection was $97,620. If it is deemed that the flood DID damage the pool then it is likely that FEMA would reimburse that amount of money for the inspection, but if not, then the city is on the hook for that amount. A FEMA representative that was talked to recently said that he would have to talk to his supervisor, suggested to hold off on this right now, and he would get back to the city after talking to the supervisor because it is a lot of money. So the council moved the whole discussion of the pool and what to do about the inspection and all that to the December 3rd meeting and maybe we would have some more information from the FEMA representative on how we should proceed with this. So the Pool thing is still up in the air.”
Quade wanted to end her series on the Council “Notes” on a Positive Vibe and reported that the Council had officially hired a new Building and Zoning Official. Matthew Fast, will start on before January 13th. The Council feels as though they hired a good candidate and look forward to him starting and are hoping for a smooth transition. The next Windom City Council Meeting will be on Tuesday December 3rd. These meetings are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to come and hear for themselves what is going on. The City Council meetings are also now available to view live or after said meetings by going to YouTube.
