FEMA has announced that the Disaster Recovery Centers in Waseca and Windom will be permanently closing at 6:30pm on Friday September 27th. The office at the Cottonwood County Office Building located at 41385 US Highway 71 will be open today through Friday from 9am to 6:30pm. In my opinion if you haven’t been out to see what help you can possibly get you are crazy. FEMA and SBA are in our midst, and they can help you navigate through all the registrations and help assure that you are getting everything that you are eligible to receive. If you even just have questions about your application, you can pop out to the Recovery Center and get answers instantly and in person! You can also submit documents for FEMA review at the center. You still have time to set up a FEMA online account too by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov and click on “Apply Online” and follow the directions. You can also apply online for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. These are available to homeowners, renters, businesses and nonprofit organizations and can provide funds for needs not met by other recoveries such as FEMA grants or insurance settlements. You can apply for these loans online at SBA.gov/disaster

The deadline to apply with FEMA has been extended to October 27, 2024. For more information about the disaster recovery operation in Minnesota either head out to a Recovery Center near you before they permanently close, or visit www.fema.gov/disaster/4797 you can download the FEMA Mobile App or call FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
