Mountain Lake Police Department issued a Press Release on the 23rd concerning a HEAT CALL OUT. According to the Mt Lake Police Department they were dispatched to the 1100 Block of Mt Lake Road for a domestic disturbance at approximately 1:37pm. The release stated that after making contact with all individuals and getting them removed from the residence law enforcement continued to try to make contact with the suspect. After several attempts to contact the suspect with no response, the regional HEAT Tactical Team (which stands for High-Risk Entry and Arrest Team) was activated and responded to the scene. After the HEAT Tactical Team made several announcements, the suspect exited the house and was taken into custody without incident. The release stated that the suspect was taken to the Windom Area Hospital and evaluated and released to be booked into the Cottonwood County Jail for the following charges: Felony 2nd Degree Assault (Deadly Weapon), Domestic Assault, Property Damage. Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported on the 22nd conducted 3 traffic stops that all resulted in citations being issued. A deputy issued a Notice To Abate to a homeowner in Jackson for the accumulation of garbage on the property and responded to a report of a disturbance in Jackson.

The Windom Area School Board will be holding a work session meeting tonight at 6:30pm in the Windom City Council Chambers. Agenda items include approving notice of Public Hearing for Tax Abatement for property at 1955 Bud Road in Windom on September 9th at 6:30pm and to review several polices, discuss upcoming Orientation, Conference and First Day of School and information on the Minnesota Rural Education Association Summit November 17th-19th.

Windom Area Health Wellness Center will be starting another Walk with Ease group. The program will run on Monday and Wednesday’s 11am-11:30am from September 4th to October 23rd. This is a free program that will help teach participants how to safely start a walking program at your own pace and increase your physical activity and provide guided instruction for strength and mobility exercises. This is a FREE walking Class for ALL Ages. This group is tailored to those who struggle with arthritis or other types of chronic pain, working to build strength and endurance over the course of the six weeks. The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce reminds travelers and the community that starting this Wednesday, August 28th, seal coating will begin. Portions of Lincoln, Sanborn Street, Cass Ave, Van Buren Ave, Jackson Ave, Jefferson Ave, Ochs Street will be worked on. All vehicles must be removed from effected streets before work begins. This will ensure timely completion of the project. There will be temporary road closures and limited access during the time of the seal coating.
