Cottonwood County Emergency Management released the following information:

Windom Residents – Sandbags will be picked up Wednesday, July 24th. Multiple cities from around the area and at least one contractor will be assisting in the effort.
Remember, this is curbside pickup only. Nobody from the city will go into your backyard or side yard to retrieve your sandbags.

Mountain Lake Police Department reported 7 calls from July 18th to July 21st.

An officer handled a dog at large and dealt with property found and turned in. The owner was contacted for pickup. An officer cited a 39-year-old from Worthington driver for NO MN Driver’s License. Mt Lake Officers explained the process of a civil standby to a party and took a report of a theft. An officer delivered an ordinance violation warning and handled a civil issue. An officer took a report of theft. Upon investigation and obtaining a search warrant the property was recovered.  An arrest was made a 35-year-old male from Mt Lake in connection to the theft.

The Windom Area School Board will be holding a workshop meeting TODAY in the Media Center at the Middle/High School at 11:30am. The discussion will be on long-term facilities for Arts and Athletics and a meeting with Mammoth Company. If you can’t attend, you can view live at Media SB22 on YouTube.

The Jeffers City Council met on Monday. The council reviewed options for placement of the fire hall. A decision was made to select Concept 2 presented by Heidi Austin of The Design Group with an additional 30 feet added to the north of the design or equal to 60 feet. The contract with Red Rock Rural water from 2018 was discussed and Mayor Prins will speak with Dominic Jones. The Council approved a fine to be sent to a resident regarding her dogs running loose on several occasions and approved a building permit to move a driveway. The Council then requested Mosquitos be sprayed weekly and be documented for the amount sprayed for FEMA.

It’s that time of year again for the ANNUAL COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY put on by the Business, Arts and Recreation Center better known as BARC. Monday July 29th the food, fun, meeting and dedication start at 5:30pm on the East Lawn at BARC located 1012 5th Ave in Windom. Everyone is invited to enjoy a Burger or Brat Meal that includes Baked Beans, Chips, Beverage and Cookie all for a Free Will Donation! There will be a special presentation dedication of the Original Windom School Bell starting at 6:30pm. Babe Crowell will being doing a brief presentation that explains the history of the original school bell and as a fund raiser, anyone can ring the bell for $5. The Annual Membership Meeting will take place after the dedication where annual reports for the Fiscal Year June 2023 to July 2024 will be presented. It’s going to be a perfect night for the community to come together and see old friends and maybe meet some new ones! You can help support BARC by becoming a member or by renewing your membership or simply by making a donation. BARC has become a staple in the town of Windom and offers so many different uses for the community. Come out and enjoy dinner, enjoy a little history and enjoy the evening of being a part of the celebration. Monday, July 29th dinner is from 5:30-6:30 with dedication and annual meeting following.

A unique drive is underway for the Windom Area Schools for the 2024-2025 School Year. It’s an Instrument Drive! If you have a concert band instrument that you are no longer using and are willing to donate to the school, please consider allowing incoming musicians to use your instrument to play instead of them sitting in their cases in your garage or basement! Instruments can be brought to the school office. If you don’t have an instrument but want to help the music flow, monetary donations are being accepted too! Monetary donations will go toward purchasing new instruments and repairs to older instruments. Checks can be made out to Windom Area Schools and submitted at the School Office. Tomorrow, Thursday, July 25th is Free Movie Day at the Windom State Theater.  101 Dalmatians will be playing. Show starts at 1:30pm and doors open at 1pm. Popcorn Candy and drinks are available for purchase. Get out of the house and enjoy the afternoon at the movies.
