Plans are being finalized for the pickup process of sandbags used during the recent floods according to the City of Windom and Cottonwood County Emergency Management. Curbside pickup for sandbags is expected to start the week of July 22nd in Windom, pending on water level changes of the Des Moines River. Property owners are asked to place the sandbags at the curb of their property in an orderly fashion for pickup. Property owners are reminded not to empty the sandbags or repurpose the bags. Once a sandbag has been used and contacts flood water, the bag and the sand are both considered contaminated.
The Emergency Operations Center in Windom continues to assess water levels in the area. Based on current projections, the EOC believes that sandbag removal should be safe by the week of July 22nd. If property owners would like to move sandbags sooner, please place them neatly on the curb of your property. This ensures sandbags will still be available if the water levels change.

So I usually don’t fall for the whole dress up your dog to match a holiday or express a feeling. I had a sweet dog Tucker that one year I bought sweaters for him and honest to Pete he was mortified. He would not move. He just sat in one spot and stared at me and the kids. It was at that point I knew I wasn’t made to dress up any animal. BUT I do have to say yesterday was All American Pet Photo Day and I caught myself thinking look at all these cute animals decked out. I looked at Otis and weighed the consequences of trying to dress him up to celebrate… We both decided to just enjoy everyone else’s pictures… It could be a confusing day for Steve because not only is it Collector Car Appreciation Day but also National Motorcycle Day. As much as Steve absolutely loves is motorcycle, Steve was gifted his Dad’s 1953 Convertible MG on his 62nd Birthday because he was born in 62 and his Dad said in 1962 and you were born, I bought this car because I just knew my boy was going to need a car someday…. A lot of nights and days have passed, and Steve has slowly been working to get it back into drivable order. He has taken it out on a few spins and even dared to have the Grandkids ride along… It was a three generational picture that made his Dad smile ear to ear. It’s National Simplicity Day and Henry Thoreau said it best when he said, “As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.” So here’s my advice for the day…. Celebrate the simpler things in life today… After all it is National French Fry Day, Eat your Jell-O Day and Etch A Sketch Day… You got your salty you got your sweet and you have your quite fun!
