With all the flooding at Island Park, Windom Parks and Recreation Director, Tim Hogan informed the Windom City Council at their meeting last week that the flood waters unlike in 2018 had flowed into the pool and they won’t know the extent of the damage until the floodwaters completely recede from the area and they can empty the pool and do a deep inspection and cleaning. Hogan stated that the rest of the Windom Pool Season is hopeful but doubtful to open back up for the 2024 Season. With that said, Hogan stated that Lakefield Pool has graciously agreed to honor all Windom Season Pass Holders. Hogan went onto say that they are working towards setting up a system to refund season passes for those that do not want to go to Lakefield. More information will be shared as they work out the details. Hogan was upbeat in saying that they have moved a lot of the summer rec activities up to the softball complex and Windom Arena. Information can be found on the City Recreational Website.

Minnesota Residents in the lower southern quadrant of the State will be required to start using 10-digit dialing starting on July 30th. If you forget to dial the area code of 507 prior to the seven digit number your call will not go through and you will receive a recording telling you to hang up and try again with the full 10-digits. This change is taking place due to the anticipation of the 507 area code is expected to run out of numbers by early 2025 so a new 924 area code is being added to the area. Anyone living or working in the 507 area code is affected, so that’s pretty much everyone in southern Minnesota’s major cities and surrounding areas. Individual and Business phone numbers are not changing nor is the call prices, coverage and local call status and 911 and 988 will remain the same.
