Windom Police Department reported on the 7th at approximately 10:45pm an officer was parked on Cottonwood Lake Drive in Windom observing the fireworks and band for the Community Riverfest Celebration. In the vehicle parked next to the squad car a male driver exited his vehicle and approached the Officers fully marked squad car and knocked on the passenger side window. The Officer rolled his window down and the male started to chat with him. The male had poor balance and slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. The male walked back to his vehicle and got in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. After investigation, the officer arrested the 71-year-old Windom Male for Gross Misdemeanor DWI Refusal and possible other charges of Disorderly Conduct, Obstructing Legal Process and Open Bottle are being reviewed by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. On the 8th at 1:19am an officer was on patrol at the intersection of Hwy 60 and Hwy 71 and observed approximately 5-6 cars traveling towards him on Hwy 60. The officer observed a vehicle with suspicious driving conduct. The Officer followed the vehicle and activated sirens using different pitches of the siren tone to get the driver’s attention, but the driver continued to drive. The driver eventually stopped at the intersection of 6th Ave and Hwy 71 N. After investigation, an arrest was made of a 72-year-old male from Windom for 3rd Degree DWI, pending the BCA results of a blood test. Also, at approximately 11:05pm an officer responded to a dog at large call in the 600 block of Prospect Ave. Upon arrival, he recognized the dog and knew who the owner was from previous calls the Police have had. After investigation, a citation was issued to a 52-year-old Windom Male for Dog at Large and Animal License Required.

Jeffers City Council met on the 10th. The Council discussed and approved raising the cost of the drive by garbage fee to $5 and raising the cost of the sewer rate to $36. The Council reviewed the modification of Ditch Benefits for Judicial Ditch #9. The Clerk will contact the Drainage Inspector to get more information. Both Resolution #2024-04 Authorizing Transferring of Funds and Resolution 2024-05 Approving Parcel for Public Auction were adopted by the council. Lance Holmen, Maintenance, presented a proposed ordinance for council review for the reduction of clear water in the sanitary sewer system for inflow and infiltration. The proposed ordinance was tabled until the next meeting. The City will be sending out letters to property owners with noxious weeds on their property.

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is holding the commemoration event marking the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War today through the 15th at the Mall of America. Over the three-day event, attendees can see historical museum displays, the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall, view Vietnam War documentaries and more. There will also be a resource Fair with valuable resources and information for Vietnam-era Veterans and their families. On Friday the 14th at 11am there will be a Commemoration Program at the Mall of America in the Huntington Bank Rotunda with speakers, music and storytelling, followed by a complimentary brunch for Vietnam Veterans.
