Windom Police Department reported on the 12th a two-vehicle non-injury accident at the intersection of 16th and Highway 60. At approximately 9:22pm an officer was conducting a directed patrol at Windom Area Health when he noticed a known male with a warrant. The officer ran the individual through the NCIC system and found that the 47-year-old male from Mountain Lake had a felony warrant out of Nobles County and a gross misdemeanor warrant out of Cottonwood County. The male was arrested without incident and transported to the Cottonwood County Jail. On the 13th at 7:17pm an officer was dispatched to the 2800 block of County Club Drive for a Hit and Run. A 2014 Dodge Ram Truck was struck by a Ford F-150 that was backing out of a parking space.  After investigation, an arrest was made of a 29-year-old Windom Male for Driving While Intoxicated. On the 14th there was a two-vehicle non-injury accident at the Drive thru at Dairy Queen in Windom.

According to a report, the Marshall Police Department were called out to the 100 block of East Main Street on the 17th concerning a family matter. A 63-year-old male of Marshall had made verbal threats and fired a handgun at an officer on scene. A family member was taken out of the residence by the officer, before the suspect had barricaded himself inside. The Brown, Lyon, Redwood, and Renville Emergency Response Unit intervened, but negotiations failed. Chemical agents were utilized to remove the suspect, who discharged additional rounds during the incident.

At approximately 11:00 PM, the suspect was peacefully taken into custody without injury. The suspect is to be booked into Lyon County Jail once he’s medically cleared.  Formal charges will follow, upon review of the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.

Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on the 16th.  The commissioners approved the AIS grant request of $20,000 applied for by the City of Mountain Lake for the operation and maintenance of the Weed Harvester and the Conditional Use Permit submitted by Central Specialties, Inc., for a temporary asphalt plant in Delton Township with conditions. The Veterans office hours starting Today, April 22nd will be Monday through Thursday from 7am to 5:30pm. The Commissioner then approved the Municipal Advisory Service Agreement by and between Cottonwood County and Northland Securities, Inc. There were two resolutions adopted by the board.

  • 24-04-16 Approving a Notice of Sale for the Issuance of $10,000,000 General Obligation Capital Improvement Plan Bonds, Series 2024A.
  • 24-04-16A Resolution Approving Sponsorship of Grant Application to be Submitted by the City of Windom in the MnDOT Carbon Reduction Program.
  • 24-04-16B Resolution Authorizing Funds Toward the City of Mountain Lake Workforce Housing Development Program Project, contingent upon Mountain Lake EDA receiving the grant from Minnesota Housing Finance Agency.

The Commissioners then moved to split the 2023 Statewide Affordable Housing Aid funds as follows: UCAP – $38,000, Rebuilding Together MN – $25,448, and Mountain Lake EDA – $25,000 contingent on Mountain Lake EDA receiving the MN Housing Finance Agency Grant.

Windom’s Citywide Cleanup Date is Saturday, May 18th. Cleanup Day will follow the guidelines like last year, with a maximum of 10 bulky items allowed on your curb for pickup and there will be a drop off site from 7am-1pm at Tegels Park for all other items. The city will provide an $8 subsidy per mattress with a maximum of two mattresses per address.    There will be no electronics or appliance pick up. Again, the date for City Wide Cleanup in Windom is May 18th no need to start putting your items out on the curb until then.
