The Windom City Council met on the 16th. The Council approved the budget of the Windom Area Health that was presented. WAH’s  2025 budget appears to break even, and they discussed adding and growing services including pain management and possible offering shoulder replacement surgeries.  Ryan Anderson, Water/Wastewater Superintendent, was present to present the Annual Consumer Confidence Report. Windom had a good report, and all readings were within the appropriate ranges. The Council approved replacing three condensers and three evaporator coils for the HVAC System at the Windom Community Center. The cost of $23,118.32 will be paid with funds from the 2023 hail damage account. According to Councilwoman Jenny Quade, a call for a Public Hearing was set for MnDOT Layout Truck Highway 60 Municipal Consent for June 4th at 6:30pm. Quade also reported the South Cottonwood Lake Subdivision – Plans and specs were approved as well as the amendment to the development agreement which pretty much tightened up dates. The Council approved the 2024 Urban Deer Hunt. The council reviewed last year’s hunt which had 8 permits issues and 5 deer harvested.  This year the hunt was again approved during the deer season and opened to people 16 and older that pass the proficiency testing for bow hunting. Ringle Park on River Road will also be added to the area allowed to hunt this year. Mayor Jones re-appointed and gained approval of the Council for Terry Tegels to the Hospital Board. Quade encouraged the public to take advantage of chances to discuss with MNDOT at their public hearings and open houses.

Sufferin’ Succotash, it’s April 19th and Sylvester the Cat’s Birthday! Oh how I miss the old days of Saturday morning cartoons with Sylvester, Tweetie and Bugs… It is also National Humorous day.. it’s a day designed to urge everyone to see the silver lining in every situation. I use to walk around with my rose colored glasses on and wasn’t affected much by what was going on around me. I maybe should try to find those glasses again, I believe I was much happier when I wore them!! I shook my head when I saw it was National Cat Lady Day. I am much more on the dog loving side, but I do have many friends that swear the Cat is the only way to go… I shake my head because I actually knew a lady that I worked with many years ago that had over 25 cats. She knew all their names and had stories about each of them. I dropped a cake off to her house once for her birthday and the ground was in constant motion. Don’t send hate mail because I am NOT against cats BUT there should be a limit to the number of cats you can have in your home.. I STILL THINK YIKES… BUT hey let’s celebrate National Cat Lady Day… My favorite spice is a celebration today. I don’t ever have to worry about vampires because I love Garlic!! Celebrate big and remember you can never have too much garlic on National Garlic Day!!!
