Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 78 calls in the week of March 17th to March 23rd. Deputies conducted 38 Civil Processes, handled 2 animal calls, had 2 Drug Complaints, conducted 2 Public Assists and investigated a report of vehicle theft. Windom Police Department reported on the 19th an officer took a report from a Windom Male regarding damage to his 2005 Chevy Impala. There was a scratch mark on his trunk and near the gas tank that is believed to have been done with a key. The reporting party was not sure when the damage occurred. On the 20th officers were dispatched to Elite Mechanical on 1st Ave to recover a stolen 99′ white U-Haul Trailer that was parked in their lot. After running the trailer plate it was confirmed that the trailer was stolen out of Sioux Falls SD. There was no damage to the trailer and there is currently no evidence of who dropped the trailer off. On the 23rd at 12:51am an officer handled a disturbance between a male and female in the 1400 block of 2nd Ave. The office spoke with both parties about the verbal disturbance The officer provided the female with a business card with the domestic violence hotline number on it. The officer advised the female she does not need to be afraid to call if something is happening. On the 25th, at 10:14am an officer spoke with a Windom Male resident in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center about his 2015 Chevy Silverado Pickup. The party reported he parked his truck in the Perkins Creek Parking Lot the night before around 10:10pm. In the morning of the 25th he noticed the back window of the truck was broke. The window near the break was bowed outward and had broken glass in the truck bed, which could have been from being broken from the inside of the truck.

Federated Rural Electric stated An ITC transmission line pole south of Windom caught fire around midnight on Tuesday morning.  About 530 Federated Rural Electric members served by the Wilder substation lost power at 11:49 a.m. Power was restored around 1:20 p.m. when Federated Rural Electric line crews rerouted power.

Kyle Koerselmen, Federated Assistant Operations Manager  thanked members for their patience. Koerselmen went onto say, we are aware that Federated members who signed up for outage text notifications had received too many outage notifications and Federated contacted the vendor to investigate the problem.

The Farmfest Woman Farmer of the Year Award is taking nominations. This award was created to honor hard-working female farmers across Minnesota who selflessly give their time to growing crops and raising livestock on the farm. If you know someone that meets the following criteria

  • Farms or Ranches as a sole proprietor or one part of a couple, family or partnership.
  • Farms entirely within the state of Minnesota
  • Can work outside of the home or farm but must contribute to the farming/ranching operation in addition to the duties outside the farm.
  • Has a high level of commitment to the farm/ranch in terms of hours dedicated to her work.
  • Has a positive impact on the farm in terms of income, yield, diversification, and/or overcoming challenges.
  • Nominee demonstrates not only impact on the farm but also positive impact on her community
  • Is highly encouraged to be available to attend a recognition ceremony on August 8th
  • Must agree to be featured in Farmfest advertising, news stories and social media.
  • Must provide at least one photo with their application.
  • Must be a legal resident of the United States, and 18 years of age or older.

Five nominees will be chosen and honored, on stage, at the August 8th ceremony where one will be awarded the 2024 Farmfest Woman Farmer of the Year and receive a cash prize.
