It’s official the ground was broken on the historical build for the new Public Works Facility located at 46705 County Road 15 yesterday afternoon. According to Cottonwood County Engineer Public Works Director Nick Klish, this new facility has been a discussion for a very long time and is becoming a reality by a lot of work and effort from some very devoted people. The existing facility was first built in 1939 and had four additions with the last one in 2003. Five Accessory Storage buildings were built between 1950 and 2003. According to Klisch most of the buildings are beyond their useful lives with many deficiencies and today’s equipment is much larger than the equipment when the buildings were originally built. At the groundbreaking, John Madson was heard telling the crowd, when he was coming through the door for the first time in 1969 he was told “we are going to build a new shop”. That’s right 55 years later, its truly becoming a reality. Klisch stated that the dirt groundwork is planned to start immediately but there may be a slight delay pending on what kind of snow comes with the forecasted weather. Klisch ended his speech yesterday saying thank you to everyone involved that there was just too many to mention but hopefully this time next year, they will be moving into the new facility. Also if anyone would like to see mock up panels of the new facility, they are available at the Public Works Building. Pictures of the Groundbreaking are available on the KDOM Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/KDOMWindom
