It’s 2024 which makes this an Election YEAR!!! March 5th is Minnesota’s Presidential Primary Election Day. This will be the election to select each parties nominee for President. Any Minnesota resident that is registered is eligible to fill out a ballot. You can pre-register through February 13th or you are able to register on the presidential primary election day. You must be 18 years of age by March 5th 2024 in order to vote in the Primary election. Polling hours are from 7am to 8pm and you can find your polling place by visiting mnvotes.org or contacting your local County Court House or City Hall. Again, Presidential Nomination Primary Election is Tuesday March 5th , State Primary Election is Tuesday August 13th and State General Election will be Tuesday, November 5th. KDOM will be reporting results for each election.

Meetings Today include:

  • Mt Lake Public School Board is holding a Special Meeting at 7am in room 101 at Mt Lake Public School.
  • Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services Board at 9:00 am in the Jackson County Government West Conference Room located at 407 5th Street, Jackson.
  • Fulda City Council at 5pm in Fulda City Hall Council Chambers.
  • Mt Lake City Council at 5:45pm in the Mt Lake City Hall.

Mountain Lake Public Schools announced last week that the Current Mt Lake Elementary Principal, Brandon Henning will be serving as both the Superintendent and Elementary Principal, pending final approval at this mornings special Board meeting.  Current Superintendent Bill Strom announced his retirement effective June 30th after his contract for the 2024-25 school year was approved. The Board posted internally to fill the vacancy and believe they have reached a solid candidate.

The Section 3A One Act Play results are in! the Contest was held at the Estebo Performing Arts Center of Redwood Valley High School on the 3rd. Participating this year were the following eight schools:

  • BOLD/BLHS/RCW High Schools
  • Central MN Christian High School
  • Edgerton Public High School
  • Lac qui Parle Valley High School
  • Minneota Public High School
  • Morris Area High School
  • Russell-Tyler-Ruthton High School
  • Westbrook Walnut Grove High School

According to Whitney Hegg, OAP Contest Manager the runner-up was Morris Area High School, and the day’s champion was Russell-Tyler-Ruthton High School.  Russell-Tyler- Ruthton will present their production at the OAP State Festival on Thursday, February 8th at 3:15pm at the O’Shaughnessy Auditorium at  St. Catherine University in St Paul.

St  James residents are invited to submit pictures that capture St. James for the “Through the Lens of St. James” Photo contest. By submitting a photo you release the photo rights to the City of St James to be used on the City Website, Facebook or other marketing materials. All photos must be submitted by March 31st to Tammy Stevens at tammy.stevens@ci.stjames.mn.us

Meetings on Tuesday- February 6th: 

  • Murray County Board of Commissioners will  at 8:30am in the Murray County Government Center. If you would like to listen in by calling or view the meeting via zoom you can find the information on the Murray County Homepage.
  • Jackson County Board of Commissioners and the Drainage Authority will meet at 9am at the Jackson County Court House Commissioners Board Room
  • The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners at 9:00am at the Cottonwood County Courthouse in the Commissioners Room.
  • The St James City Council will be meet at 5:30pm in St. James City Hall – Council Chambers. Meetings can be viewed live or anytime on the City of St James’s YouTube Channel.
  • The Windom City Council meets at 6:30pm at Windom City Hall in the City Council Chambers
