The Windom Police Department submitted their December Monthly Crime Report that showed they had a total of 609 calls for the month. They had 4 Adult Arrests, 0 Juvenile Arrests and served 5 Warrants. There were 6 Accidents with 0 injuries and 1 DUI. Windom Police Officers issued a total of 237 Traffic Violations and Warnings for the month.

For the year of 2023 there were a total of 95 Accidents with 11 injuries in 2022 there were 134 accidents with 20 injuries and 0 fatalities.

Mountain Lake Police Department reported 13 calls from December 27th to the 31st. A 41-year-old male from Comfrey was arrested for DWI from a traffic stop in the 400 block of Cottonwood Dr in Mt Lake an officer delt with a wild animal call, handled 2 civil disputes and conducted 2 welfare checks and assisted Des Moines Valley Health & Human Services with a welfare check. Officers assisted three separate agencies with a driving complaint, a wrong way driver on Highway 60 and a traffic investigation. Mt Lake Officers took a theft report from Dollar General resulting in charges pending on an offender from Worthington. Officers handled a parking violation in the 900 block of Prince Street resulting in the vehicle being towed and they cited a 32-year-old male from St James for Driving After Cancellation at the intersection of 3rd Ave and Dollar General.

Rock the Rink Pink is set for January 18th starting at 6:30pm! This event is being sponsored by the Windom Youth Hockey Association and Windom Area Health Foundation to show support for those in our community who have been impacted by cancer and to cheer on the Windom Youth Hockey Teams during their double header. Businesses and individuals again have the opportunity to paint the ice in honor or memory of someone who has been impacted by cancer or to raise awareness.  If you want more information or are ready to reserve your painting spot, contact Katie Greener at 507-831-0633 or e-mail Katie at kathryn.greener@windomareaheath.org  Squares can be painted on the 17th anytime from Noon to 6:30pm. Spots are purchased on a first come first serve basis and must be reserved by 5pm on Monday January 15th.

Proceeds to benefit the Women’s Health Fund, supporting local women going through cancer treatments.

The next Windom R & R is scheduled for Friday January 12th from 5-7pm at the Windom Community Center located at 1750 Cottonwood Lake Drive. All Businesses and their employees are invited to attend for an evening of fun, cocktails, socialization and appetizers. This months event is being sponsored by the Masonic Lodge of Windom. A cash bar will be open and available. Make this your last meeting for the work week.

Windom City Council met on Tuesday. Steve Nasby was appointed as City Administrator and Ron Schramel was Appointed as City Attorney. The Council established the 2024 Meeting dates and times as the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month starting at 6:30pm with the addition of a Board of Review meeting on May 13th at 4:30pm and on March 5th and November 5th starting the regular meeting at 8:05pm due to primary and general elections. Fire Chief Ben Derickson reported that the new compressor has been installed and is working well and the new hose was received from the DNR grant. The Council approved an Agreement for Professional Services with Burbach Aquatics Inc. for the Windom Swimming Pool. This will be the group that starts the feasibility study for the Windom Pool. A committee will be formed that will be comprised of a couple city council members and community members to start meeting with Burbach Aquatics Inc to look at concepts and design ideas for any possible pool in the future. The resignation of Kim Armstrong as Finance Director/Controller was approved with her last day being January 12th, the council approved advertising for the position immediately. Mayor Jones, still has a few people to reach out for reappointments and there is an opening on the Telecom Commission. City Councilwoman Jenny Quade wants to remind the community that Name a Windom City Plow contest submissions are due this Friday January 5th and to get your ideas into the City Hall Office!!!
