Minnesota State Patrol reported on the 9th at approximately 6:50am a 21-year-old male of Dover MN lost his life in a one vehicle accident on I-90 near milepost 39, in Worthington Township. The driver lost control of his 2015 Lincoln MCK while traveling westbound on I-90 and rolled into the median. The State Patrol reported the driver was not using a seatbelt and the roads were snow and ice-covered at the time of the crash. The Nobles County Sheriff’s Department, Worthington Fire and Sanford EMS assisted on the scene.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 15 calls from December 5th to the 8th. Deputies assisted other agencies with 5 transferred calls, accidents, and aiding motorist. They conducted 9 traffic stops and responded to a harassment Restraining Order Violation which resulted in an arrest of a 50-year-old male from Jackson. Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on the 6th. The Commissioners adopted the resolution approving the Detour Agreement with Kraemer North America, LLC and agreed to authorize the County Attorney, County Sheriff, and Board Chair to sign the 2024/2025 IV-D Child Support Cooperative Agreement for Child Support Services in Cottonwood County. All hires presented were approved pending on successful completion of all hiring requirements. The Commissioners moved to adopt resolution 23-12-06 giving preliminary approval for the issuance of General Obligation Capital Improvement Plan Bonds in an amount not to exceed $13,000,000 and adopting the Cottonwood County, Minnesota, Capital Improvement Plan. A reminder to motorist traveling Highway 71 near Sanborn, the Minnesota Department of Transportation stated that Highway 71 near Sanborn will be closed starting today till the 14th, weather permitting, as the Canadian Pacific Railroad makes repairs to the railroad bridge.

People travel from across the continent and globe to see the owls at Sax-Zim Bog, where there have been 10 owl species recorded in winter.
