Mountain Lake Police Department reported 5 calls in the week of November 28th to December 3rd. Officers assisted Windom Police with an assault call, an officer assisted a motorist at the intersection of County Road 1 and Highway 60 with car problems, officers worked a one vehicle accident with no injuries, a food truck sustained unknown value of damage to trailer and awning with $2,000 in damage to City Light Pole. Mt Lake Officers worked a death investigation of a Mt Lake resident on December 1st at approximately 7:39am. K-9 was called out to assist Windom Police Department in a call for welfare.

The Springfield Ambulance Crew will be holding an informational meeting on Friday December 15th at 5pm in the Springfield Community Center. If you are interested in joining the Ambulance Crew this will be a great opportunity to learn more and meet the crew. There will be applications on site and you will have an opportunity to tour the ambulance and view the equipment.

Mountain Lake City Council met on the 5th in regular session and also held a Truth in Taxation meeting. The council was presented a letter from Michele Griffith regarding the sidewalk repair assessment. City Administrator Michael Mueller stated he is waiting to hear back from EPS, Bulter Steel and Lester Buildings on estimated costs and specs for the new Fire and Ambulance Hall. There were no further updates to report at the time of the meeting. An update was given by the City Attorney to the council regarding civil processes on various properties, public nuisances, current processes, court procedures, agreements, and plans. Meeting dates were reviewed for 2024. A list of expiring and vacancies for the various city boards and commissions were briefly discussed. Mayor Nelson is still working on the list and contacting those whose term expires at the end of this year and finding vacancies.
At the Truth In Taxation Public Hearing discussion was held 2024 Budget and Levy.
Mueller reviewed and explained the preliminary 2024 summary budget and tax levy, Local Government Aid, levy information, the 2024 Capital Improvement Plan, and the 2024 budget packet as approved in September. The preliminary levy was set at a 4.9% increase. The total levy is $1,023,779.56, a $48,252.87 increase from last year. No public questions regarding the budget and levy increase. A large amount of the levy increase, $35,000.00, will be budgeted towards a new building for the Fire & Ambulance Hall. No changes were made to the levy or budget. The Council Approved Resolution #34-23 Final Levy & 2024 Budget.

The 8th Annual HO HO HO Holiday Show will be held at the Windom Community Center on Saturday December 9th from 10am to 4pm. They have approximately 39 vendors signed up to participate and P&J’s Mini Mart Café & Catering out of Heron Lake will have morning snacks and lunch for purchase. It’s another chance to get that perfect Christmas Gift for that special someone.
