The Minnesota State Patrol reported on the 10th at approximately 6:37pm a 2011 Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on Highway 62 in Great Bend Township of Cottonwood County, just west of Windom. The driver, 58-year-old Billy Thao of Tracy, swerved to avoid a dog in the roadway and left the roadway crashing into the ditch. Thao sustained non-life-threatening injuries as did his passenger 55-year-old Sally S Vang of Tracy. Both occupants were taken by ambulance to Windom Area Hospital. Assistance was provided by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Windom Police Department, Windom Fire Department, and Windom Ambulance.

Windom Police Department reported on the 9th officers responded to a possible breaking and entering at 12:07 am in the 1700 Block of 17th Street. After investigation officers found that the female was on the lease and was trying to get clothes from her apartment but the male was not allowing her in. Officers did a stand by while the problem worked itself out. Officers responded to ACE Hardware for a theft call. After investigation a male was found to have taken two drill bits at the cost of $24. The case has been forwarded to the City Attorney for possible theft and trespass charges. At approximately 7pm Officers responded to a report of people screaming in the 1300 Block of 8th Ave. After investigation, it was found two family members were having an argument and they were separated for the evening. On the 10th at approximately 1:20pm Officers responded to a verbal disagreement in the 1600 block of 4th Ave. Parties were separated for the day. Officers dealt with a trespassing complaint in the late afternoon. At 5:10pm Officers were notified of a complaint of a juvenile holding a weapon in a “Snapchat” photo.  The juvenile was spoken too by Windom Officers with the parents and were advised that the photo was taken a long time ago.  The juvenile was advised of the consequences. At approximately 8:15 pm officers completed an arrest of a 51 year old Windom Female on a Cottonwood County. On the 11th at 8:27am Windom Officers were notified by a concerned parent of a complaint on a bus driver.  Windom School SRO handled the complaint. At 12:39pm Officers were notified of a vehicle blocking Hwy 60 by Hy Vee.  Officers arrived on scene and called Windom Towing for a vehicle that would not operate.  After investigation a citation was issued to a 46 year old female of Windom for Driving after Suspension.

Windom Area Health is holding a First Aid CPR Training for teenagers 13 to 17 years of age on October 14th. This training is ideal for those looking to babysit or simply want to be prepared to act in an emergency. Attendees will be trained on Adult, Child & Infant CPR, First Aid, AED Usage, and will be taught with both video and hands-on training. Attendees that complete the class will receive an American Heart Association CPR Certification Card. Class will be held from 9am to 2pm in the Large Conference Room of the hospital. Cost is $100 per student plus a $5 optional meal. Space is limited to 10 students and students must be registered by September 27th. For more information or to register call 507-831-0673.

Volunteer Adult and Teen “Reading Buddies” are needed at the Jackson Library to dedicate one half hour a week to read with younger readers after school. If you are interested give the Jackson Library a call for more information at 507-847-4748.

Jackson Library, Heron Lake Library and the Lakefield Library all have great book clubs that are open to the public to join. In Lakefield today at 3pm they will be discussing “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane” by Lisa See. At the Jackson Library on the 18th at 1:30pm discussion will be on “The Bodyguard” by Katherine Center and on the 19th at 2pm at the Heron Lake Library, the Book Club will be discussing “Other Birds” by Sarah Addison Allen.
