Jackson County Sheriffs office reported on the 24th at 6:48pm the Lakefield Fire Dept. was paged to a grass fire on I-90. Crews were on scene for about 20 minutes. On the 25th at 2:18am the Alpha Fire Department was paged to a grass fire north of Alpha. Crews were on scene for about 30 minutes. On the 26th Deputies had 2 welfare checks issued 2 traffic citations and conducted a traffic stop on I-90 for Speed. After investigating, a 17-year-old female driver from Rochester and an 18-year-old male from Sioux Falls were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance – Fentanyl. The juvenile was booked and released due to her age and responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in Jackson and were called to the Jackson Sanford Hospital to assist with an unruly patient. On the 27th, Deputies assisted the Jackson Ambulance twice and the Heron Lake Ambulance with three separate medical calls. At 11:52pm Deputies responded to a report of loud music at a residence in Jackson. Deputies could hear the music a good block away from the house. Both occupants of the residence refused to identify themselves when deputies informed them of the complaints from the neighborhood and asked them to turn down the music. Both residents were identified through different means and both will receive a citation for a Noise Ordinance violation.

Last Day of School for Windom, Mt Lake Public, Heron Lake/Okabena School District, is June 1st with early dismissal.

The City of Windom recently requested State Aid in the amount of $18 million for the closing of HyLife. Last week a modified bill passed the legislature. $14 million was granted with contingencies of need. These resouces will be available pending on the results of new ownership of the plant, that held auction on the 26th but results will not be published until at least the second of June. The $14 million is set to aid Windom Area School District with $1 million dollars for possible student loss, $3 million to assist with wastewater treatment plant debt and $10 million in housing.
