Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 67 calls in the week of May 7th to May 13th. Deputies had 4 Animal Calls, worked 2 driving complaints, conducted 16 Civil Processes, assisted 3 motorist, served 3 warrants, and had 12 traffic stops. Jackson County Sheriffs Office reported they had 12 contacts over this past weekend. On Saturday, Deputies sent a Notice To Abate letter to a Jackson apartment complex for an accumulation of junk outside the building, responded to a child protection issue in Jackson, checked out an open door to a closed business in Jackson, dealt with a complaint of an ATV mudding in a ditch outside of Alpha and responded to a disturbance in LaCrosse Township. On Sunday, Deputies checked out burglary alarm, responded to a report of two suspicious males who were seen placing an uncased rifle in the back seat of a vehicle in downtown Jackson.  The vehicle and occupants were located.  Two airsoft rifles and an airsoft pistol were located in the backseat of the vehicle.  Both occupants were from Watonwan County and it was determined no crime was committed. A deputy conducted two welfare checks, responded to a disturbance involving a male that was refusing to leave a residence in Jackson.  After investigating a 37-year-old male from Alpha, was arrested for a Probation Violation. A traffic stop was conducted on I-90 which the driver was cited for speeding, and a deputy responded to a civil dispute over ownership of a dog.

On the 12th at approximately 1 pm The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office responded to 10th Street in Mountain Lake after hearing dispatch radio Mountain Lake Officer regarding a possible Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO) Violation. Upon arrival and further investigation, 46-year-old Stephen Preston was located and arrested on a DANCO Violation and brought to the Cottonwood County Jail.

Residents of Comfrey were forced to leave their homes after a hard 8 inches of rain led to flooding. Sunday the 14th, residents tried to minimize water damage by sandbagging before having to leave. County Road 17 was closed due to flooding.

A Cottonwood County certified organic farmer, James Clayton Wolf aged 65 engaged in a scheme to defraud grain purchasers, according to court documents, between 2013 and 2021  by selling them non-GMO grains falsely represented as organic. He admitted to purchasing conventionally farmed grains from a supplier and reselling the grains labeled as organic. Wolf has pled guilty to wire fraud, in a 19-million-dollar fraud scheme according to the United States Attorney’s Office- District of Minnesota.

  • Jackson County Board of Commissioners and  Drainage Authority at 9:00am  in the Jackson County Courthouse, Commissioners Board Room.
  • Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce at Noon at the Mt Lake United Prairie Bank Meeting Room.
  • James City Council at 5:30pm in the St. James Community Building
  • Windom City Council at 6:30pm in the Windom City Hall Council Chambers.

Red Rock Central School District Board of Education will be meeting at 5pm in Lamberton.
