The Windom Fire Department was paged to a house fire on Prospect at 8:37pm. According to Fire Chief Ben Derickson, upon arrival the front porch of the home was fully engulfed. The Fire Chief was first on scene at 8:40pm and confirmed that everybody was out of the house. Derickson went onto say the fire was knocked down quickly and then the salvage and overhaul started to vent out the heat from the house and look for any hot spots and any other areas of concern. Derickson stated that they cleared the scene at 11:06pm. There were no injuries. An investigation into the fire will continue today.

Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 59 calls in the week of April 23rd to the 30th. Deputies helped with 1 property exchange, had one Jail incident, conducted 6 Civil Processes, 1 Vandalism Call, had two concerns for welfare, and had 21 traffic stops. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 27th Deputies assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call, responded to a report of a student under the influence of alcohol at the JCC High School, assisted Lakefield Police Department with a Disturbance and received a report of a theft from a parked vehicle in downtown Jackson. Prescription medications and cash were stolen from inside the vehicle. The matter remains under investigation. On the 28th at Noon a Deputy found a disabled vehicle in the middle of the roadway near the intersection of US 71 and Industrial Pkwy blocking the traffic lane. A tow truck was called to the scene to assist and in the evening a deputy assisted the Jackson Ambulance with a medical. On the 29th, Deputies had four separate traffic stops on I-90 in which all were issued citations for speeding and in the evening a
deputy assisted the Mt. Lake Ambulance with a medical in Kimball Township. A Jackson County Deputy also responded to a report of a burglary and theft in Jackson. A garage was entered, and two chainsaws were stolen. The matter remains under investigation. At approximately 9pm a A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle that struck a deer on US 71 just south of Jackson and then at 9:37pm Deputies responded to a report of a one vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of County Road 9 and County Road 14 in Rost Township. Janiris Ramos Rodriguez of Lakefield was driving a 2015 Chevy Malibu that left the roadway and entered the ditch. The Lakefield Ambulance assisted at the scene.
