According to a statement from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the hunt is over for 58-year-old escaped convict Ralph Leslie Apmann after his deceased body was located in Boom Island Park in Minneapolis Friday, February 24th. His body has been taken to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine cause and manner of death. Apmann, although not present because he failed to appear for his court date on Monday February 13th, was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder on February 14th for the death of Juan Luis Morales-Rivera on August 26, 2021.

The Windom Fire Department were in full force according to Fire Chief Ben Derickson, on Saturday the 25th starting at 5:05pm when they were paged to an enclosed trailer fire on highway 60 near Windom Wash. They cleared this call at 6:12 p.m. There were no injuries and Windom Fire, Windom Ambulance, Windom Police Department, Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department and MN State Patrol were also on scene.
At 6:28pm the Fire Department was then paged to a single vehicle roll over on Highway 71 North near 390th Avenue. Windom Fire, Windom Ambulance, Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department, and MN State Patrol were on scene for this call that was cleared at 7:04 p.m. According to Derickson, there were no injuries.
Then at 10:42 p.m. Derickson stated the Fire Department was paged to provide mutual aid to Jackson Fire Department for a barn fire at 88570 530th Avenue. Derickson stated they sent both of the tankers and an Engine to assist Jackson Fire Department. They were on scene until at 12:48 a.m. Jackson Fire, Windom Fire, and Windom Ambulance were on scene for this call. Derickson reported there were no injuries.

Windom City Council met on Tuesday the 21st. According to City Councilwoman Jenny Quade, The Fire Department Ratification Election was approved with
- Ben Derickson as the Fire Chief
- Jordan Bussa as 1st Assistant
- Justin Harrington as 2nd Assistant
- Kristen Porath as 3rd Assistant
The Council approved the Park and Recreation Commissions recommendation to allow an Eagle Achievement Dog Park Project to put new dog equipment in the dog park. The Council then approved to increase the ambulance rates and also to replace an ambulance to Arrow Manufacturing in the amount of $196,474 with a $9,000 trade-in allowance. The approved 2022 Annual Report is available to look at on the Windom City Website. The Report highlights each City Department with statistical data and narratives.
