Murder Trial cancelled for the day. (update: as of 9:35 am)
What was supposed to be the start of calling the first witnesses for the defense in the Murder Trial for Ralph Leslie Apmann of Windom, became a cancelled day in court due to Apmann not showing up for court. According to law enforcement, a warrant has been issued for Apmanns arrest at this time. Law Enforcement has issued a public alert as they search for Apmann.
Windom Area School Buildings are currently in a soft lockdown due to the situation within the community. Students are having classes as usual, but all exterior doors are locked and no one will be able to come or go from the buildings at this time.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 8th a deputy responded to a vandalism report in Okabena. An unoccupied vehicle parked by the high school was keyed. On the 9th An individual from Sparta, New Jersey called the Sheriff’s Office and reported they were the victim of credit card fraud. Someone had used his credit card to purchase $3,000 worth of merchandise using an address in Jackson. The address exists but the name used is not affiliated with the address and is not the name of an individual living anywhere in Jackson County. It is suspected the fraudster randomly picked the address and the name is also not correct. The caller was advised to report it to his credit card company. In the early evening hours on the 9th a deputy responded to a theft report involving a package that is believed to have been stolen from a mailbox and a deputy responded to a report of a hay bale in the roadway near the intersection of CR 29 and CR 34. It was pushed into a field approach and at 10:15 pm Deputies assisted the Jackson Ambulance with a medical call. On the 10th at 9:07pm A deputy assisted the MN State Patrol with a driving complaint of a vehicle travelling westbound on I-90 west of Lakefield. It was reported to be driving under 40 mph and was crossing both the fog line and centerline. The deputy located the vehicle, which was clocked at 32 mph in a 70 mph zone, near the Heron Lake exit and conducted a traffic stop. After investigating, a 40-year-old male from Lakefield, was arrested for probable cause 2nd Degree DUI and Open Bottle. On the 11th at 11:35 am A deputy assisted the MN State Patrol with a driving complaint of a vehicle travelling westbound on I-90 west of Lakefield. It was reported to be driving under 40 mph and was crossing both the fog line and centerline. The deputy located the vehicle, which was clocked at 32 mph in a 70 mph zone, near the Heron Lake exit and conducted a traffic stop. After investigating, a 40 year old male from Lakefield, was arrested for probable cause 2nd Degree DUI and Open Bottle.

Windom Police Department reported they had 433 total calls for the month of January with 12 Adult arrests, three Juvenile arrests and four warrants served. There were 18 accidents with zero injuries, three DUI’s and 104 Traffic Violations and/or Warnings issued. Officers handled 18 suspicious activity calls, had 53 public assists, 4 terroristic threats, 5 assualts, 3 disorderly/trespass calls and handled seven harassment/ OFP Order Violations. The Masonic Lodge, Prudence Lodge No. 97 in Windom is sponsoring an Ice Fishing Contest on Saturday February 18th from 10am-2pm at Cottonwood Lake in Tegels Park. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Windom Sharing Center. Entry Fee is $10 per contestant. Winner will receive $100 and Second Place wins $20. Categories will include Walleye, Northern, Crappie/Sunfish/Bluegill, Perch/Bass and Non-Game Fish. There will be food and beverages available at the park for purchase.
