Mountain Lake Police Department reported 13 incidents from January 9th to the 15th. Officers dealt with six different calls involving vehicle accidents with no injuries and assists. They conducted a civil standby and handled two verbal domestic calls. There were two separate reports of attempted scams, one computer and one phone. An officer checked on a suspicious vehicle parked at Dollar General after investigation, a 20-year-old Male from Mountain Lake was cited for no MN Driver’s License and a 27-year-old female from Bingham Lake was cited for driving after revocation

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 17th they had a call of a vehicle that had slid off the road on US 71 in Jackson, a semi in the median on I-90 near Heron Lake exit, a jack-knifed semi on MN 60 west of Heron Lake, a vehicle in the ditch on US 71 south of Jackson and a deputy assisted the MN State Patrol with a report of a vehicle stuck in the median on I-90 east of Jackson. Upon arrival, it was discovered the vehicle was attempting to turn around in a crossover and got stuck in the process. The driver was issued a citation Divided Highway Crossover Violation – Jackson County Sheriff, Shawn Haken wants to remind everyone that it is illegal to use a crossover on I-90 to turn around on and is instead only for use by DOT and first responders. Deputies also responded to two separate domestic disturbances and did a welfare check on an individual and responded to juvenile issue. At 11:29 pm on the 17th, Deputies and the Lakefield Fire Department assisted the MN State Patrol with a report of a semi loaded with hogs in the median on I-90 west of Lakefield. A Livestock Recovery Team was assisted by the fire department in transferring the livestock to another trailer. Crews were on scene for about 4.5 hours.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday. The Commissioners approved applying for the REAM Program Grant through the Minnesota Department of Corrections and approved the bid from Citizen Publishing for the official county newspaper for 2023. The Commissioners also approved all employment hiring, probationary periods and movement to full-time status’ that were presented. The Board will submit the 2022 Pay Equity Report to the State of Minnesota before January 31st. In the last bit of business the Commissioners moved that all Buildings and Grounds Worker positions will now be supervised by the Building Operations Manager.

The Cottonwood County Ditch Authority that met on the 17th took action to approve the ditch levies as presented by each district. The Second of Three Payments were approved to the sinking ditch fund in the amount of $97,271. The second of five payments to JD #3 was approved.
