LSS Meals in Windom will be having a FREE frozen meal distribution Thursday, Dec. 15th from 12:30 to 1:30 at the Windom Community Center.  Adults ages 18-59 are eligible to receive a bundle of 10 frozen meals to use as they need.  There is no pre-registration, reservations, or income guidelines. This is on a first come first serve basis. According to Kelly Kleven Windom Site Coordinator,  the goal is to serve 30 individuals which comes out to 300 meals. This program is made possible through a grant from Second Harvest Heartland.

Redwood County Sheriff’s office reported on this morning at 1:27am a Mercedes-Benz driven by a 37-year-old male from Minooka Illinois, was traveling westbound on Minnesota Highway 68 near the intersection of Fairview Ave when he lost control of the vehicle on the icy road. The vehicle spun around 180 degrees before rolling several times into the ditch and then field. The driver was uninjured with no damage to public or private property. He denied medical attention with no apparent injuries.

Windom Police Department reported on the 12th of a burglary that occurred at the Windom Sharing Center. According to a representative at the Sharing Center someone had broken into the building and stole hamburger that was in the freezer in the back room of the Sharing Center. This happened sometime between the 10th and 11th between the hours of 1:30pm to 830am.  The reporting party stated the front door was unlocked when she returned on the 11th at 8:30am. She was sure she locked all doors when she had left the day before. Taken was 10lbs of hamburger valued at approximately $40.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 12th at 8:18 PM a deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Mill Road and 510th Ave in Belmont Township.  As the deputy exited the squad car and began to approach- the driver fled.  A pursuit ensued ending about 1/2 mile south of Kilen Woods on 510th Street when the vehicle entered the ditch and briefly caught fire.  The driver fled on foot into a wooded area.  Deputies quickly extinguished the fire and then set up a perimeter.  Deputies alerted several residents in the immediate area of what had transpired and to lock their vehicle and house doors and to report anything suspicious that they might see.  A person was later observed fleeing on foot in a bean field near the woodlot.  The male, age 46 from Lakefield, was then apprehended and is being held on Felony Fleeing A Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, 5th Degree Controlled Substance Possession, 2nd Degree DUI Test Refusal, and Driving After Revocation.  The Windom PD K-9 Unit, MN State Patrol, and Lakefield PD all assisted at the scene. Then at 3:56 AM  A deputy responded to a report of a “taller male” who was observed trespassing in a garage on Sayles Drive in Jackson.  Nothing appeared to be missing or stolen from the garage.  The deputy was unable to locate the male.

On the 13th at 2:50 AM  A citizen turned in a bag of drug paraphernalia that they found in downtown Jackson while walking.  The items were destroyed. On the 14th Deputies worked six different vehicle accidents due to weather.
