The Redwood County Sheriffs Department reported on July 30th at approximately 11:15am a 54 year-old male from Utah was driving his 2017 Silverado when he lost control near the intersection of County State Access Highway 2 and US Highway 71. He entered the ditch and rolled the vehicle onto its roof. The Utah man was checked over by the ambulance on scene. This incident remains under investigation.

Department of Natural Resource District 16 had the following reports:

Conservation Officer Thor Nelson of New Ulm received calls concerning hunting and fishing law clarifications. He also removed unattended property from wildlife management areas. The rest of the week was spent enforcing angling, boating, invasive species, and off-highway vehicle laws.

Conservation Officer Dustin Miller of Windom assisted with teaching new COCs at Camp Ripley over the past week. Extra enforcement attention was given to AIS compliance. TIP calls were taken and are being worked regarding littering and angling violations.

Conservation Officer Mike Gruhlke of Jackson worked angling, aquatic invasive species, and ATV enforcement. He completed a radio interview with KKOJ discussing non-motorized watercraft registration, PFD-use requirements by youth under 10 years of age, and speed/distance laws relating to PWCs.

University of Minnesota Extension Southwest Regional Sustainable Development Partnership (Southwest RSDP) is seeking applicants for membership on the board of directors and work groups. Southwest RSDP is one of five regional partnerships that connect local communities with University of Minnesota resources to support sustainable development in Greater Minnesota. RSDP focuses on natural resources, sustainable agriculture and local food systems, resilient communities and clean energy. The Southwest RSDP board is composed of community volunteers from the region, along with representation from University of Minnesota faculty and staff. Board members work together to make decisions about how to invest resources in community-driven projects. Successful candidates for the Southwest RSDP board and work groups will:

  • Contribute diverse backgrounds, identities, experiences, and viewpoints
  • Operate with integrity in making decisions
  • Embrace complexity and innovation
  • Be committed to building resilience and sustainability in Southwest Minnesota communities — economically, socially and environmentally.

Believe it or not, Fall Sports are right around the corner!

The District’s Fall Sports meeting for parents and athletes will be Tuesday, August 9th at 7pm in the Windom Area High School Blue Gym. Those attending the meeting will learn about Minnesota State High School League and District eligibility requirements. The Minnesota State High School League eligibility forms need to be filled out once per school year and may be completed online through the district’s Skyward system. Coaches will be at the meeting to speak with student athletes and their parents.
