Windom Police Department reported on June 29th at approximately 11:50am an officer received a complaint of a possible drunk driver in the 500 block of 2nd Ave. After investigation and traffic stop at 8th street ad 4th Ave, an arrest ws made and charges are pending on a 71-year-old Windom Female for Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor. On the 30th at approximately 8:50am an officer took a report of damage to property. A 2013 Chevy Malibu while parked in owners driveway in the 2000 block of Brian Avenue had 2 tires slashed on the drivers side of the vehicle. The act was done sometime after 8:30pm on June 29th and 8:30am on the 30th. Damage estimate is pending.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff Deputy responded to a call from US Fish and Wildlife Services to report a catalytic converter was stolen off their 2005 Ford F-150.

Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 5th at 9am in the Cottonwood County Courthouse in Windom. Upon completion of regular meeting agenda items being discussed, meeting will be closed to discuss strategy for labor negotiations.

Last night, I had the opportunity to go with the Windom City Council to tour City Buildings and Properties. It was such an interesting and eye-opening experience. How lucky is the City to have such knowledgeable and dedicated employees to keep our small but mighty City running. There are places I have heard about but never really knew where they were or what purpose they served. The week of July 18th I again will sit down with City Council Member Jenny Quade and talk about each place we visited and what we learned. Shout out to our City Council for taking the time and energy to visit and listen to employees. ALSO, we stopped at the new location for the Veteran’s Memorial Site and just seeing the red flags in place and hearing the future plans gives me pause. I am just thinking this is so overdue in our community. I can hardly wait for May 2023 when the vision comes to life, and we will have a true Memorial for our Veterans.

So I love July. I love the 4th of July and my Dad, rest his soul, was born in July. I have a grandsons Birthday in July and my son’s Anniversary is in July. I have always celebrated fully for the love of my Country and Independence. July just is special in my mind. I was doing a little research and did you know that TODAY, July 1st is International Chicken Wing Day? I LOVE WINGS!!!! It is also the 182nd day of the year, National Ginger Snap Day… (This makes me think of my Mother-In-Law she ALWAYS had gingersnap cookies in her cookie jar. My youngest loves them, the rest of us always wondered WHY?!!!! For those of you that have that Corvette sitting in your garage… Break it out because July 1st is Drive your Corvette to work day… Personally, if I had a corvette, I’d bypass work and drive it along the coast somewhere!!!!
And last but not least in the world of “IT”S NATIONAL DAY OF DAY”…. TODAY is International Joke Day…
