The Windom Police Station reported on February 23rd they received a call about an accident at the intersection of River Road and Country Club Drive. Upon investigation they found that a driver of a 2011 Chevy Equinox had driven into a ditch. The vehicle sustained minor front bumper damage and the driver was taken to Windom Hospital for her injuries. This matter is under investigation.

On February 24th Windom Police  responded to the 800 block of Winnie Avenue for a disturbance. After investigation, an arrest was made of a 21-year Windom female and charges are pending for Domestic Assault pending review by the County Attorney’s Office.

Also on the 24th Windom Police responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of 15th Street and Highway 60. A driver of a 2012 Ford Focus was stopped at a stop sign on 15th Street at the Highway 60 intersection when a 2013 Econoline pulled up behind. The Focus attempted to turn onto Highway 60 but got stuck due to snow then proceeded to back up to get traction and struck the Econoline. There was light damage to the rear bumper of the Focus and no damage to the Econoline.

Windom Area Public Schools are pleased to announce that Bridges Preschool is now accepting registrations for the three and four year old classes for the 2022-23 school year. Bridges Preschool is dedicated to educating children socially, emotionally and academically as they prepare for success in Kindergarten and beyond. Tuition is $115 per quarter for the three year old program that meets twice weekly and $175 per quarter for the four year old program that meets every day.  Applications will be accepted until Friday April 1st. Windom Area Health Foundation announced that Scholarships are now available.

The Windom Area Health Foundation was established in 2002 with a mission of providing charitable support for the medical and educational programs of Windom Area Health, apart from normal operating expenses.  In keeping with this mission, the Windom Area Health Foundation will once again be offering several $1,000 continuing education scholarships to local students who are interested in pursuing a career in a healthcare field.

Scholarships will be awarded based on leadership, character, integrity, community service, and a commitment to following a course of study relevant to healthcare.  Students must have a GPA of 3.0 OR be officially accepted into a healthcare program in order to be eligible for the scholarships.  Recipients may apply for scholarships in subsequent years, as the foundation intends to continue the program in the future.

The Foundation is partnering with the Sanford Health Network for an additional scholarship opportunity.  A recipient of the Windom Area Health Foundation scholarship will have their application forwarded on to Sanford Health for consideration for an additional $1,000 scholarship. Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday March 1st at 9 am in the Cottonwood County Courthouse in Windom.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners and The Drainage Authority will meet on Tuesday, March 1st at 9:00 am at the Jackson County Resource Center Cafeteria.

The Windom Area School Board will hold a special Meeting on Tuesday, March 1st at 4pm in the Elementary Conference Room. Meeting will focus on next steps for hiring a new Superintendent.
