Change is coming to the Summer Celebration Riverfest! The Windom Area Chamber of Commerce will be in charge of the Festivities starting this 2022 year. According to Chamber Director Tyann Hall-Marcy, in the latter months of 2021 current President of the Riverfest Committee approached Hall-Marcy to see if they would be willing to take over Riverfest. Hall-Marcy went onto say that it seemed like a natural fit since the Chambers priority is to promote Windom and its Businesses and bring outside traffic into see what our great town has to offer.
Riverfest will be Thursday June 9th through the 12th and the Chamber will hit the ground running when the first committee meeting takes place sometime in this next week. Hall-Marcy said that she is building a great team to start the process of putting on a great celebration. People from all aspects of Windom-Businesses, previous committee members and new Windom residents will comprise the Riverfest Committee. Hall-Marcy acknowledged that a celebration of this size takes a lot of volunteers and stated no one will be turned away they will need a lot of different talents to make the celebration a success. The past two years have been a little different due to CoVid but Hall-Marcy envisions getting back to an action-packed and fun celebration like pre-Covid. Hall-Marcy stated that being a Windom Native she has years of experience to look back on. Although nothing has been written in stone as of yet for the Riverfest Celebration, one thing that is for sure is Arch Allies will be performing on Friday June 10th at Island Park concert starts at 7pm. If you have a desire to participate in any capacity in the production of Riverfest, Hall-Marcy encourages you to contact the Windom Area Chamber Office at 507-831-2752.

If you haven’t joined in to witness the popular EagleCam for 2022 you are missing out!
The Nongame Program EagleCam eagles are about to become parents for the second year. Their first egg arrived on Feb. 12 and the second egg arrived on Feb. 15, and it is possible there will be a third egg. Videos capturing the quick but strenuous process of laying each egg are available and can be watched at www.dnr.state.mn.us/features/webcams/eaglecam Chicks are expected around the third week in March.
Although this is the tenth season of the popular EagleCam, this young pair is on their second mating season. In 2019, the first year for this female, no eggs were laid. In 2020, the female chose a mate and the pair raised three chicks. Two survived to fledging, but one later landed on a power line and died.
In 2021, the female chose a new mate. This male was barely of breeding age, four to five years old. The pair had two eggs and raised both chicks successfully. The chicks, a male and a female, were banded on May 4, 2021.
