Windom Police Department reported that an Accident occurred at Perkins Creek Apartment Parking Lot at 1475 17th St on February 2nd. A 2005 Mercury Mariner was going to pull into a parking stall when a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville pulled up into that stall to back into another stall south of that location. The two vehicles collided. The Mercury sustained minor damage to the front driver’s side fender and bumper damage and the Bonneville sustained minor damage to drivers side rear bumper and tail light damage.

This weekend is going to be full of EPIC and EXCITING Snowmobile Racing in Butterfield. According to Kent Winters this is the 3rd Annual Butterfield Winter Freeze Ice Oval Races featuring over 30 action packed classes of vintage and modern snowmobiles. This year holds even higher regard because this is the first time to do points. Winters stated that they are expecting over 200 snowmobiles this weekend. There will be 32 different classes available to race in and competitors can enter and run in as many different classes that their machine fits in. Registration begins tonight at Buckstops Bar and Grill in Butterfield from 5-8pm and then they will also have registration from 8am-10am on the Butterfield Pond prior to races. There are high stake prize money, trophies, and awards in each class. 15 different classes have a cash payoff and there are two premium Classes that will pay out up to $1,000. Winters encourages spectators to come out and experience this amazing race day. It is free to the public and there will be Concession Stands with Food and Drinks and an old favorite of Hot Dr Pepper. The weather is supposed to be in the 40’s which is perfect for watching there will be parking all along the lake for perfect viewing and watching the thrills and chills as snowmobiles can reach speeds up to 90 miles per hour. Hot Laps- (Practice Times) will be from 9-10:30 am. There will be a drivers meeting at 10:30am and Racing begins at 11am. Winters says with all the classes and contestants there should be a good 4 to 5 hours of awesome racing. Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced, after plowing through nearly 60,000 votes, the winners of the 2022 “Name a Snowplow” Contest.
2021’s Winner- Plowy McPlowFace now has eight new friends, including Betty Whiteout and Ctrl Salt Delete, joining the state’s snow fighting fleet. One newly named snowplow will be assigned to each of MnDOT’s eight districts later this month.
The winning names, in order of vote totals, and their future homes are:
- Betty Whiteout – District 8
- Ctrl Salt Delete – District 7
- The Big Leplowski – District 4
- Plowasaurus Rex – Metro District
- Scoop Dogg – District 3
- Blizzard of Oz – District 2
- No More Mr. Ice Guy – District 1
- Edward Blizzardhands – District 6
Once again for the second year in a row, the agency invited people to submit creative ideas for snowplow names in December 2021. After receiving more than 22,000 name ideas, MnDOT staff narrowed down the list and selected 50 finalists for the public to vote on. These 50 names were determined by considering several factors, including how creative or unique the name was, whether it would be understandable or identifiable to broad audiences, and the frequency of submissions.
