The Cottonwood County Historical Society is taking care of dinner plans today with its annual Fall Fundraiser Dinner at the museum in Windom. Serving will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a meal of beef on a bun, coleslaw, baked beans, potato chips and a cookie. You can enjoy your meal inside the museum and spend some time visiting, or take it to go using the drive-thru pickup line at the south door along 8th Street. The suggested donation is $12 for adults and $5 for children age 10 and younger. Additional sandwiches will be available for $5. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at the museum or when you arrive. The Cottonwood County Historical Society is located at 812 4th Avenue in Windom. So, give yourself the night off from cooking, enjoy a good meal and support the Cottonwood County Historical Society at the same time. The Economic Development Authority of Windom will meet today at noon in the Windom City Council Chambers, with the future of Dynamite Park among the items on the agenda. The EDA will consider a recommendation from the Windom Park and Recreation Commission that the city sell the approximately three-acre Dynamite Park property to the EDA for one dollar for potential future development. Possible options include eventually selling the property to adjoining landowners or potentially using the land for residential development. However, the original deed contains a provision stating that if the property is no longer used as a park, ownership reverts to Cottonwood County. A portion of Dynamite Park is also known to be susceptible to flooding. Several steps involving both the City of Windom and Cottonwood County would be required before the property could ultimately be transferred to the EDA. The EDA will also consider updated guidelines for its Roots to Wings Child Care Program and a $6,000 loan application from an existing in-home child care provider located just outside the Windom city limits. The funding would be used to insulate a garage to provide additional activity space for children during inclement weather. Other agenda items include the annual report for River Bluff Townhomes, a proposal for new photos and videos to market Windom, and information about a potential grant opportunity to help remove and replace ash trees affected by emerald ash borer.

The Windom Area School Board of Education will meet Tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Windom City Council Chambers. Among the action items, the board will consider approval of a new two-year contract with the Windom Education Support Professionals. District and WESP representatives reached a tentative agreement in August, with the proposed contract covering July 2026 through June 2028. The board will also consider several personnel changes as part of its consent agenda, including resignations and new hires in paraprofessional, food service and cafeteria positions. Administrative reports are scheduled from the elementary, middle school, high school and special education departments, along with reports from Superintendent Jamie Frank and the Board of Education. The Murray County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday, September 15th at 8:30 a.m. in the Murray County Government Center. Among the items on the agenda, commissioners will continue discussions on the county’s 2027 budget and consider a county assessment related to the 34th Street Improvement. County Engineer Nick Bergman will provide a monthly maintenance update, and the board will consider final payment for the county’s 2026 sealcoat work. Commissioners will also consider an Economic Development Authority loan recommendation for Trevor and Emily Rosenbrook and a resolution concerning the Southwest Regional Solid Waste Management Plan. Later in the meeting, the board is scheduled to enter into a closed session for confidential discussion regarding labor negotiation strategy. Any official action resulting from that discussion would be taken after the closed session. The Murray County Board meeting begins Tuesday morning at 8:30.
