We’re still smiling after an absolutely incredible night at KDOM! Our End of Summer Barbeque and the Final LA Motor Sports Big 5K Giveaway brought out a crowd that truly blew us away. We served more than 296 burgers and hot dogs give or take a couple that may have hit the ground along the way! and even with the brutally hot temperatures, you showed up, hung out and made the night one we won’t soon forget. But honestly, the number of burgers served wasn’t the best part. YOU were. It was seeing so many familiar faces filling our space at the station. It was meeting new ones. It was laughing, visiting, catching up and getting a chance to spend time with the people we normally only get to talk to through a microphone. That is what made the night so special. Radio has always been about community, and nights like this remind us exactly why we love doing what we do. You listen to us in your cars, at work, in the tractor, at home and wherever your day takes you but getting the chance to have you come to OUR place and spend the evening with us was pretty darn special. And did I mention it was HOT?! It was so hot we saw a funeral procession go through the Dairy Queen and it was so hot the cows were giving evaporated milk! Of course, there was also some COLD HARD CASH to give away! A huge congratulations goes to Alyssa Reisdorfer of Windom, the Grand Prize Winner of $2,000 in Cold Hard Cash, compliments of LA Motor Sports Big 5K Giveaway! Alyssa capped off a summer filled with winners. We had several other lucky people take home Renaissance Fair Tickets, T-Shirts, and of course MORE COLD HARD CASH it has been an absolute blast. Together, we got to put thousands of dollars back into the hands of people in our listening area and have a whole lot of fun doing it! Mountain Lake Police Department reported 21 calls in the week of August 24th to August 30th. Among the calls, an officer assisted Windom Police with an arrest following a vehicle pursuit. Police also responded to a suspicious vehicle at Munson Field, where a 24-year-old woman was arrested for violating a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order. A second person was referred to the County Attorney for alleged court condition violations. Officers also took a report of a theft from an RV, which remains under investigation, and responded to several medical calls, traffic stops and neighborhood complaints. The Jeffers City Council met in regular session on Monday. The council approved two building permits and discussed concerns involving dogs running loose in the community. Councilmember Sheila Ryker reported on a possible grant opportunity to help replace ash trees. The city clerk will contact the Southwest Regional Development Commission for additional information. The council also discussed installing security cameras at the city park. After reviewing two options, council members unanimously approved moving forward with a system costing approximately $2,115. Maintenance reported the city has been unable to make contact with the company that repairs playground equipment. Residents can also expect correspondence from the city regarding tree branches, mowing and general yard cleanup. A separate letter will be sent to all residents regarding the importance of tree trimming to provide adequate clearance for maintenance and emergency equipment. The council approved the financial report and payment of bills before adjourning.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on the First. Commissioners approved applying for the Safe and Secure Courthouse Grant, along with a letter of support for the application. The board also approved the purchase of a CAT pickup broom from Ziegler Cat in Jackson through the state bid for $8,984.06. Commissioners approved hiring Daniel Axford as Cottonwood County Veterans Service Officer at a starting wage of $30.32 per hour. His start date is September 14th, pending completion of all hiring requirements. The board also approved a letter supporting Rebuilding Together Minnesota’s application for USDA Housing Preservation Grant funding. September warrants totaling $245,807.50 were also approved.
