Officers had 13 Directed Patrols, 2 Animal Calls, 2 Concerns for Welfare, 1 Suicide Threat, and 2 Parking Violations. Windom Police Officers investigated 2 Suspicious Activities, 1 Suspicious Person, 2 Suspicious Vehicles, 2 Citizen Complaints, 1 Sexual Assault and 2 Thefts. Officers responded to 1 Harassment, 2 Noise Complaints, and conducted 30 Traffic Stops. Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported 17 calls from May 29th to May 31st. Deputies conducted several traffic stops, assisted the Lakefield Police Department with a Domestic Assault, conducted a civil standby, and responded to 2 separate domestic disturbances. Deputies and the Jackson Fire Department responded to commercial fire alarm which turned out to be a false alarm and investigated a report of a scam involving Jury Duty, this remains under investigation. May Weather Stats 6/1/26
The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in May. The information is compiled by Dave Fjeld, the local weather observer and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls. In May we received two and 36 hundredths of an inch of precipitation. That is very close to 2025 total when we received two and 23 hundredths of an inch. For the year we have received 8 and 13 hundredths compared to 7 and 67 hundredths last year. Our high temperature was 90 degrees recorded on May 16th. The low for the month was 34 degrees on May 5th.

The Windom American Legion Post 206 invites the public to a Flag Retirement Ceremony at noon on Sunday, June 14th, at Tegels Park as part of Riverfest. Flag retirement ceremonies are commonly held on Flag Day and serve as a reminder of the flag’s significance and the values it represents. The ceremony is a meaningful tradition that honors worn and damaged American flags with the dignity and respect they deserve after years of service. Community members may bring flags for retirement. Organizers note that only cotton flags can be ceremonially burned. Polyester and nylon flags, along with any flags not included in the ceremony, will be properly disposed of according to established flag retirement guidelines. The event is free and open to the public.
